Every now and then we come across a video game that is so groundbreaking that it inspires countless other games. This can be in the form of a specific mechanic, an art style, or in some cases, an entire genre. For example, FromSoftware's Dark Souls series is responsible for the emergence of the Soulslike genre.

Cutaway gags are much more difficult to pull off in games.
Therefore, it is not uncommon for developers to look to such popular titles for inspiration when developing new games. One of the upcoming games is Fable. Other than what we've seen in the trailer and that it's scheduled for release in 2025, we know very little about it. It looks like more details are being revealed as the launch window slowly approaches.
Fable is a big part of the Witcher series.
It looks like Fable will take a lot of inspiration from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We've heard hints of this before, but it was reiterated by Jez Corden on the Xbox Two podcast. Corden claims to have seen alpha footage of the game, and was blown away by how “freaking fantastic” the game looked in its early stages.
“You can tell there’s CD Projekt Red DNA in this game,” Corden said on the podcast. “So the developer, Playground Games, brought in a lot of developers. [like] I think CD Projekt Red picked a combat designer, I guess you can tell. I can't say it's 100% one-on-one with the Witcher. Because it isn't.
“But in melee, the kind of pirouettes, dodges, evasive rolling, seamless hacking and slacking, it looks really cool. It's all there. It looks very polished. It looks really good and if this is early gameplay, it's probably better than what I've shown now. This will look better.
He went on to say that combat involves a mix of different weapon types, with swords, bows, and spells being used seamlessly. There are also reportedly spells that allow players to lift enemies and slam them to the ground, like the Force powers in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
As for the enemies, Corden said he also saw what looked like a giant chicken and a werewolf. The battle looked very intense and reportedly featured a variety of weapons, including giant hammers. The animation quality and acting also looked really good compared to the alpha build of the game. However, he said he had no idea when the gameplay footage came out or who the original source was.
This isn't the first time Fable has been compared to The Witcher. In March of last year, there was talk about the game's inspiration, and it was reported that “the word 'Witcher Like' came up a lot.”

Fable (2025)
Fable 4 is an upcoming RPG for Xbox and PC. This time it's a reboot of the classic series developed by Playground Games, best known for their work on the Forza series of racing games.
