Earlier Sunday, the Battlefield 6 single-player campaign suffered a bit of an online glitch in that it required players to be connected to the internet, despite the campaign being a completely solo experience. Not only that, you may lose connection mid-mission due to internet or server issues, or both!
It's especially disappointing when you remember that ahead of release, BF6 seemed to buck the whole code-in-a-box trend by putting the entire game on disc. Yes, I love that I can play offline.
While this is certainly a negative, the campaign appears to be good in one respect. The catch is that it is automatically removed once you beat the campaign.
As spotted on social media, after beating the single-player campaign and provided you have a stable internet connection, the game will ask you if you want to uninstall the mod to free up space on your hard drive. Of course, you can totally keep it if you want to complete challenges, replay missions, or space isn't an issue.
Considering how big modern Triple-A games are, especially those in the online multiplayer space, it's a pretty cool addition. Let's not forget what a huge deal it was to have Call of Duty's massive file size reduced to just 25GB after days of dominating the console space.
After all, this isn't the first time Battlefield has asked users to remove something.
As hardcore Battlefield fans may remember, during BF6's pre-launch beta, fans playing on PC were asked to uninstall Valorant if they wanted to continue participating in the beta.
Of course, it turns out that there was a conflict between EA and Riot's proprietary kernel-level anti-cheat system, which puts the two titles in direct competition with each other due to the access required.
Still, it's funny to think that Battlefield 6 has a habit of telling people when something needs to be removed. Even though it is an essential part of the overall package.
