One of its standout elements is the ability to transform into a defeated boss, adding a layer of strategy and unpredictability. With numerous bosses in the game, not all can be turned into spirits, so it’s important to know which ones can.

Therefore, regardless of your build or in-game progress, you’ll likely find a spirit here that best suits you.
14
Guangmou
Max Rarity: Epic
Guangmou
is one of the best spirits you can get relatively early in your playthrough. This spirit can be found after defeating the Guangmou boss in Chapter 1. It’s recommended to use this spirit from some distance, as the enemy can interrupt you easily if you are up close. Upon activating, vipers will be summoned to spit on the enemy, inflicting poison and slowly depleting the enemy’s health.
This perk can be a game-changer during a boss fight where you can’t afford to take a hit. Also, when you are equipped with this spirit, your poison damage and resistance moderately increases.
13
Rat Governor
Max Rarity: Rare
If you’ve encountered the pesky ranged enemies in Black Myth: Wukong, you’ll appreciate the Rat Governor
spirit. This unique spirit offers a rare ranged attack option, making it easier to deal with these annoying foes.
The Rat Governor can be obtained in chapter two after defeating the Stone Vanguard. While the fight with this boss can be a bit tedious, it’s not overly difficult.
12
Rat Archer
Max Rarity: Rare
Rat Archers
are one of the most annoying enemies in the game. They can rapid-fire arrows toward you, and if you fail to evade them, they can cost you your life. These enemies are spaced far apart, making them even more frustrating to deal with. However, you can obtain the Rat Archer spirit and give them a taste of their own medicine.
This is a great ranged option that can deal some notable damage. Equipping it will also moderately increase your thunder damage. This useful spirit is also obtainable during Chapter 2.
11
Tiger’s Acolyte
Max Rarity: Epic
If you’ve already made it to the Stone Vanguard, you’ve likely encountered this particular spirit. It’s an epic spirit capable of dealing significant damage, and it’s quite flashy too. Tiger’s Acolyte
is straightforward yet effective; it delivers a quick slash to the opponent and inflicts impressive damage.

Defeat the Tiger’s Acolyte Yaoguai Chief, who guards the bridge leading to the Stone Vanguard’s location, to obtain this spirit. It also provides a moderate boost to your critical damage.
10
Earth Wolf
Max Rarity: Epic
Another great spirit on the list is Earth Wolf
. It is a solid option for those looking to increase the damage output. However, this spirit has one disadvantage, which is that enemies can dodge it. While not all foes would be this agile, there are many who can’t be ignored, so it requires precise usage.
You can get this spirit by defeating the Earth Wolf in Chapter 2. In addition to its damage capabilities, Earth Wolf also grants a small amount of focus with each hit, enhancing its overall utility.
9
Charface
Max Rarity: Epic
If you want to focus on mobility, then Charface
is a good option to use as a spirit. It moderately enhances the charging speed, which can certainly be helpful in combat. Upon activating the skill, the destined one will smash the blade on the ground to create a magma burst.
While this spirit is quite powerful, acquiring it requires some patience. It becomes available in the fifth chapter, which is toward the end of the game, but you can find some alternate options before then.
8
Wandering Wight
Max Rarity: Epic
This is the boss who caused many players significant trouble in the beginning. The brutal attacks of Wandering Wight led to numerous rage quits. Unfortunately, you won’t get to experience those flashy attacks when using its spirit. However, despite that, it is a pretty strong spirit that deals a tremendous amount of damage to the enemy.
To use it, you would have to look for an opening, and upon a hit, it will stun the boss, allowing you to hit the boss with more attacks. You can get this spirit relatively early in the game, so it is a great option to use in the early to mid-game. It also increases your defense moderately.
7
Mountain Patroller
Max Rarity: Rare
Mountain Patroller
is one of the most impressive spirits in Black Myth: Wukong. It isn’t just about looks, as it significantly increases your offense. Upon using this spirit, the Destined One will transform into a Mountain Patroller and jump into the air to rain down a flurry of staples.
This deals a tremendous amount of damage and looks exceptionally cool. It can also stagger bosses, giving you an opening to use more attacks. Also, it increases the critical hit chance of jumping heavy attacks.
6
Non-Able
Max Rarity: Epic
When looking at spirits with a solid Passive effect, the Non-Able is a premium choice. Getting a boost to your attack, Crit Rate, and Crit Damage, is a huge bonus, especially for Crit builds relying on Light and Heavy attacks. The spirit’s overall damage is low, but its low Qi cost means it’ll recharge much quicker.
Unlike other spirits, the Non-Able isn’t as easy to use — you must trigger it during a light combo, and its attack sequence depends on when you activate it. Besides that, it reduces your maximum mana, reducing your potential to use spells. As such, this spirit is designed for melee-focused players, and it’s gratifying once you master it.
5
Old Ginseng Guai
Max Rarity: Epic
Summoning entities to help you is an underrated ability in Black Myth: Wukong and the Old Ginseng Guai proves it. On top of raising your minions’ maximum health while equipped, this spirit summons several Ginsenglings to fight for you. These spawns deal considerable damage, sometimes even defeating a miniboss solo.
The number of Ginsenglings summoned depends on the number of enemies you fight. Generally, you’ll often see one Ginsengling in an encounter, but bigger mobs might force another Ginsengling to spawn. As a whole, the Old Ginseng Guai is an exceptional spirit in 1v1 encounters, giving you time to reposition and readjust while the enemy fends off the Ginsengling.
The additional HP buff applies to your ‘A Pluck of Many’ spell, too.
4
Bull Governor
Max Rarity: Epic
Bull Governor
is an optimal choice for those who want more damage with the Scorch effect. This can be useful, especially if you use the first transformation spirit. Upon activation, Bull Governor will charge toward the enemy with a halberd. The hit will deal considerable Scorch damage to the opponent.
This spirit is highly impressive, offering a notable increase in scorch damage against enemies. However, you can only obtain it in the fifth chapter, so it will take a bit of grinding before you can make use of it.
3
Centipede Guai
Max Rarity: Epic
Another spirit that focuses solely on significant damage is the Centipede Guai
. You can get the spirit in Chapter 4, so it is going to take you some grinding to reach this boss. You will encounter this boss deep within the hollows in Bonevault. Do note that this fight isn’t going to be easy, as the spirit will be pretty strong.
Upon using this spirit, the destined one will turn into Centipede Guai, curl its body into a giant ball, and deal a tremendous amount of damage to the nearby enemies. Equipping this spirit will also give you a moderate boost in your movement speed. So, make sure to get this one for a lot of benefits.
2
Flint Vanguard
Max Rarity: Epic
If you’re looking for a high-DPS machine that’ll melt through minibosses, figuratively and literally, the Flint Vanguard is your best bet. The damage output on this spirit is second to none, even outclassing the Wandering Wight. After a few devastating hits, it leaves a fiery trail, causing damage over time to the enemy while also raising your Scorch Damage and Burn Resistance.
The Flint Vanguard is an ideal pick for Burn builds but with some caveats. To compensate for its monstrous DPS, the Vanguard is fairly slow and notably weak against fire-resistant enemies. You’ll likely miss several attacks against nimble minibosses; however, considering the upside, it balances things out.
1
Baw-Baw-Lang-Lang
Max Rarity: Mythical
As the only Mythical spirit in Black Myth: Wukong, it’s easy to see why Baw-Baw-Lang-Lang tops the list. When you transform, the spirit deals massive damage while inflicting enemies with one of four Banes: Scorch, Ice, Poison, or Thunder. Thus, the spirit’s aftereffect lets you carry the momentum further into the fight.
Although Baw-Baw-Lang-Lang is less effective against Bane-resistant bosses, the damage alone is well worth the effort. It stun-locks most enemies during the attack, minimizing the risk of you getting knocked out mid-transformation. It’s undoubtedly the most versatile spirit in the game, pairing well with different builds and keeping its tremendous power across various fights.
You must fully upgrade Baw-Baw Lang-Lang with Tadpoles to get the Mythical variant. To do that, you need to defeat all the frogs scattered across different in-game chapters.
