Call of Duty is once again at the center of the artificial intelligence (AI) debate, as more examples of generative AI use emerge online.
-
Following the odd-looking Santa Claus, the Gobblegum, which displays five-digit numbers or more, has been added to the number of potential generative AI use cases.

In a large Reddit thread, fans discussed the issue of AI, with many having negative feelings about it.
Just days after initial suspicions arose about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in Call of Duty Black Ops 6's menus, more allegations have begun to surface. For background, fans have pointed out some inconsistencies surrounding the original undead version of Santa Claus, most notably having more than five fingers.

On Saturday, an image of a man holding a goblet in his hand, which appeared to have more digits than necessary, was added to the list of charges. The image was included in a list of NSFW calling cards that sparked outrage from fans.
Now, in a Reddit thread on the official Black Ops 6 sub, fans are taking a stand against what they're calling “unacceptable.”

Fans start to push back
The thread, which has nearly 1,000 comments and over 6,000 upvotes at the time of writing, is full of fans discussing their opinions on the alleged use of AI.
“The joke about them has already been removed,” one user responded succinctly. Of course, one removal is just a drop in the bucket for what is considered the “biggest” COD release of all time. But action of any kind is always a harbinger of change.
“I have to agree, AI can work in certain use cases, but this isn’t it,” another user wrote in part. “Put simply, the game feels soulless in its current state.” In fact, EA Sports leveraged machine learning to help create the looks of over 10,000 college football players before developers did the rest manually.
The end result isn't necessarily generative AI like what's claimed in Black Ops 6, but it's a way to power your workflow. It's also important to note that this isn't the first time claims about generative AI have been made against Call of Duty, as claims were made last July that the Yokai's Wrath bundle was created with AI.
“It’s really sad what’s going on right now,” said another player. To that end, neither Activision nor Call of Duty has commented on the claims at the time of publication. TheGamer will update this story when a statement becomes available.

The pandemic has tricked publishers into thinking about live service games. We have a great idea.
The success of titles like Among Us and Valheim in the early days of the pandemic didn't exactly indicate a long-term appetite for games-as-a-service.
