Key Takeaways
- Reo evolved and developed a new determination to improve his soccer skills as he embraced his new chameleon style of play.
- Reo's realization that he wants to be the one Nagi pursues shows deeper character development.
- The animation quality in this episode has improved compared to previous episodes, hinting at potential improvements in future episodes.
The new episode, titled “Chameleon”, begins with Reo finally being able to stand up for himself and telling Nagi to watch him, saying he's glad he can finally play with him again. The A-Team trio consisting of Isagi, Hiori, and Nanase discuss how Isagi was able to score the goal. that analogy What Hiori described as reflexive thinking is just as amazing as how a good player can analyze which pieces to place where in the heat of a game of Tetris. If you're a fan of classic games, you can easily relate to the fact that when the game speeds up, there's little time to think or react. For that matter, all you have to do is place the tiles in the correct positions as your mind and body suggest, as quickly as they appear.
Seeing the three of them chill together instead of fighting over who's better, and actually complementing each other, is a nice change for once in a series where everyone fights over who's better. That's not to say fans don't like it. Everyone loves it because the whole series is about being the best and pride, but it's also pretty nice to see some friendly interaction every now and then.
Blue Lock: Nagi Seishirou Lazy Genius, Explained
Despite his lack of motivation, Nagi's natural football genius shone through and he became one of Blue Lock's greatest players.
Second match begins
Born genius vs lazy genius
The match starts out great with Reo taking the lead and trying to work with Nagi, not expecting them to face the best of the best in Blue Lock. Team A counterattacked, showing off their individual skills, but the star of the first half was Yukimiya, who took control of the ball and beat everyone, including Shido and Rin, without breaking a sweat before shooting a great goal. However, Jyubei attempted a counterattack. The moment Nagi appeared, he intercepted the ball and scored an incredible goal for Team B.
Reo realizes that Nagi is not the same boring guy he always was who forced himself into soccer just for the sake of it, but is actually now above league level and actively enjoying soccer. These kinds of bittersweet moments are what fans appreciate about the show. Because these players are still human, and some of them are friends or rivals, even if they want to play together to grow.
born with everything
But there's nothing you actually want
Reo knows that the Top 6 wants nothing more than to be the best striker in the world. He knows he doesn't. He knew that even if he lost at Blue Lock, he would still have a great life because he came from a very successful and wealthy family and was good at every other job he did. Leo still remembers his father telling him that he was born to be the heir to the company and that few people make it as a football player. “There’s no way you could be like that,” he said.
Leo said, grinning like a crazy person who thought everything he thought was stupid. For him, defeat means returning to normal life. It's boring. As the camera pans to Nagi, Leo thinks that this is exactly what he wants. “Nowhere else but here.” Reo gains strength and passes to Yukimiya, ready to give it his all in what could be his last soccer game.
Leo's Awakening
Episode Highlights
When Reo gets possession of the ball and starts passing it back and forth to Nagi, Shidou tries to stop him. No longer content to be a jack of all trades, Reo proudly declares himself a master of all, saying he can occupy any position in the field. Even though Nagi had the opportunity to pass, Reo decided to play like the best players do and let down all of his guard to get to the net and score. Leo, kicking with all his might, imitates Yukimiya's shot and scores Team C's second goal. Reo named his new play style “The Chameleon”.
Team B loses the match and Reo thinks he isn't good enough to beat the Top 6 yet, but now he knows how he can improve. Nagi approaches Reo and complements his goals. But Reo knows he can't play the type of football Nagi wants. He tells Nagi to leave him behind and to continue to look down on him while Nagi strives to be the one to chase. Nagi understands and leaves. It didn't really show much of his backstory, but it was a good start. At this point, fans of the two can only hope that their bond deepens in the future.
Slightly better animation quality
Ending on a strong note
It's slightly better than previous episodes, although the quality of the production or animation hasn't improved much. Maybe it's because Isagi didn't place the puzzle pieces throughout the episode, or maybe he actually tried a little harder this episode, but he went all in. It was better than anything we've shown so far. Leo's Awakening is also well done, with a soundtrack on par with season 1. blue rock. As fans speculate, he can only go up from here, and we can only hope that he gets better once the third starting arc is completed.
In a post-credits scene, we see Itoshi Sae entering JFC and taunting the U-20 team, saying they are just high school students and that he is no longer interested in playing for the team. JFC convinced him that he could replace any striker he wanted in Japan. Sae says he wants a fool from Blue Lock, which makes it very interesting to see someone worthy enough for the Blue Lock project. Is it Isagi or is it his younger brother? Well, we haven't figured it out yet.
Blue Lock's best moments
Obviously it would be an extra time bonus
As always, the best parts of the episode are the funny moments during the extra minutes. It was natural for Yukimaru to call Nagi Sloth, and it was completely inappropriate for Nagi to call him Tarsier, but that's why Nagi is so loved by everyone. The chameleon Leo, the gorgeous stick insect Jubei, the gorilla couple Barou and Tokimitsu, and the beetle Isagi were all funny, but calling Rin a failed poison experiment was the best, and the funniest thing was Rin actually participating in the game. And Isagi corrected him by saying that it was not a beetle, but a caterpillar eaten by a bird.
Overall, the pacing of the episode was slightly better than the previous two episodes, and things were starting to look better for the show due to the upcoming tough match between Blue Lock and the U-20 team. Hopefully they will focus all their production budget and quality on the upcoming matches.
