Borderlands 4 developer explains how exclusive drops work.

Borderlands 4 creative director Graeme Timmins has fully confirmed how the exclusive drop will work after considerable confusion and “misinformation” from players.

For as long as Borderlands has existed, its main selling point has been the sheer number of weapons players can use and wield. The number of guns and the amount of potential shredding has increased with each game, and there are apparently “billions” of weapons to be found in Borderlands 4.

With the looting portion of the looter shooter being present in Borderlands, players can count on exclusive drops that have been around since at least the first game. As the name suggests, Dedicated Drops are weapons that specifically drop from certain bosses, giving players the opportunity to fight the same enemies over and over again to earn incredible loot of varying rarities.

Don't worry. Exclusive drops do not change depending on the difficulty level in Borderlands 4.

Another reason I should stay away from UVH

Naturally, Borderlands 4 is bringing back exclusive drops, allowing unique weapons to reliably drop after encountering certain bosses. You'd think it would be simple enough, but some fans have been a bit confused as to exactly how it works in Borderlands 4 and whether exclusive drops change based on difficulty level.

As Gameranx points out, Twitter user Ki11ersix directly asked Borderlands 4 Creative Director Graeme Timmins to set the record straight about Dedicated Drops and confirm exactly how they are implemented in the game. Timmins did so by explaining that exclusive drops are completely fixed and “unaffected by difficulty.”

We didn't want to “force” players into higher difficulties if they weren't ready, so anyone can farm and enjoy the game with dedication. – Graham Timmins

Timmins pointed out that this was done to ensure that anyone could “play the game” without players being forced to play on higher difficulty modes like Ultimate Vault Hunter if they are not ready. For those playing in Ultimate Vault Hunter, Timmins says XP, currency, slightly increased world drops, and firmware are all ample rewards.

So that's it for now. If you're still playing Borderlands 4 and wondering if you should increase the difficulty of Dedicated Drops, now you know the truth. You might not get as much XP and world drops as UVH, but you're guaranteed at least a few good weapons.
