Crushing Hand Gorilla Spiritborn Build Guide In Diablo 4

The Spiritborn is a class in Diablo 4 that is able to channel the power of the four great Spirits, each with its own skills and playstyles that you can build around. The Gorilla Spirit emphasizes heavy attacks and high defenses, but with no cost of speed.

Crushing Hand is a Core Gorilla skill for the Spiritborn that creates a cascading wave of damage that is decent on its own, but becomes unbelievably powerful when built around. Below, we’ll take a look at a Crushing Hand Spiritborn build that allows you to blaze through the endgame.

Build Overview

Pros

Cons

  • High damage
  • Very good survivability
  • Good mobility

Crushing Hand is a Core Spiritborn skill, and the core skill of this build. In its default state, Crushing Hand deals high damage in an area, creating overlapping shockwaves. However, with the Enhanced Crushing Hand and Rampant Crushing Hand passives, we can turn the skill into a defensive powerhouse by granting Barrier and scaling its damage with Resolve.

Resolve is an extremely strong defensive tool for the Spiritborn, especially when generated through Armored Hide. Combine these with the Unyielding Hits and Redirected Force Legendary Aspects, and you have not only incredible offense, but extremely strong defense, too.

The rest of the build seeks to support and amplify Crushing Hand in a number of ways. Vortex groups up enemies and makes them easier to hit, while Ravager lets you quickly move to the next pack.

Keep in mind however, that to effectively run this build, you’ll need some heavy gear investment, including a few Uniques and strict Tempering rolls.

Season Mechanic

The Witch Powers setup for a Crushing Hand build in Diablo 4.

Season 7 introduces the Witch Powers mechanic, allowing you to select five Witch Powers and one Unique Witch Power that each add different effects to your character. Additionally, you’ll be able to craft special Occult Gems that slot into your gear like normal gems. These provide a variety of powerful effects, on top of a flat 160 Armor and 8 percent Resistance to All Elements.

Here are the Witch Powers and Occult Gems we recommend using with this build.

Witch Powers

  • Soul Harvest
  • Aura of Siphoning
  • Abyssal Resonance
  • Aura Specialization
  • Breath of the Coven
  • Vengeful Spirit Servant

Before you have the full gear setup necessary for this build, you’ll want to use Rock Splitter to generate Vigor. Once you have the necessary Resource Generation and the Ring of the Midnight Sun and Rod of Kepeleke combo, you can swap out Rock Splitter.

Spirit Hall Choices

  • Primary: Centipede
  • Secondary: Jaguar

For the primary choice, Centipede offers an extra defensive layer when used with Scourge, while Jaguar in the secondary choice slot makes Ferocity more reliable, improving your overall damage. Both of these Spirit Hall choices also contribute to the Harmony of Ebewaka Unique.

This build works by combining the effects of two Uniques, the Rod of Kepeleke and the Ring of the Midnight Sun. The Rod of Kepeleke makes your Core Skills into Basic Skills and free to cast, but if they are cast with full Vigor, they will consume all your Vigor to be cast at their largest size and are guaranteed Critical Strikes.

The other part is the Ring of the Midnight Sun, which refunds a portion of the Vigor you spent in the last two seconds after dealing a Critical Strike. Since the Rod of Kepeleke guarantees Critical Strikes, you’ll always refund the Vigor you spend to cast Crushing Hand.

With high enough Resource Generation, you can fully recover your Vigor every single time. However, to achieve this, you’ll need to do a bit of tinkering with your gear. There are a few sources of Resource Generation in this build, like the Intelligence stat, Vigorous passive, Measured Ravagar effect, and a few nodes on the Sapping Paragon board.

The amount of Resource Generation you need depends on the roll you get on the Ring of the Midnight Sun. Here’s a breakdown of how much Resource Generation you need at a few intervals.

  • 35% Vigor Restoration on Ring of the Midnight Sun: 186% Resource Generation required.
  • 40% Vigor Restoration on Ring of the Midnight Sun: 150% Resource Generation required.
  • 50% Vigor Restoration on Ring of the Midnight Sun: 100% Resource Generation required.

Any roll less than a 35 percent roll on the Ring of the Midnight Sun is unfeasible, so you’ll need to try for another one. Until you can get these stats, hold off on using the Rod of Kepeleke and Ring of the Midnight Sun combo, as you’ll be stuck without a way to generate Vigor.

Playing The Build

A Spiritborn using Crushing Hand to pummel enemies in Diablo 4.

Once you’ve got everything set up, this build’s playstyle is relatively straightforward. Crushing Hand is the main damaging ability that you’ll be using at almost all times, ideally casting it three times in a row to take advantage of Prodigy’s Tempo.

Use Vortex to group up enemies and Ravager to teleport to nearby groups, all while spamming Crushing Hand to deal massive damage.

For Elites, Bosses, and other high-health enemies, use The Hunter to gain a range of offensive buffs and burst down their health bar. Armored Hide provides tons of defense as it generates Resolve stacks, but you can pop it in an emergency for a quick defensive buff.
