Grand Theft Auto 6 is still a year away from its most recent and final delayed release, but that hasn't stopped rumors about Rockstar's next game from continuing to pour in. Here's whether the highly anticipated title will release on Nintendo Switch 2.
Apparently a port of the next Grand Theft Auto title isn't ruled out, according to insider NateTheHate. In fact, according to insiders, Rockstar is “conducting testing” internally to see if a Switch 2 version is possible. What's more, the company is making a real “effort” to make sure it can get the job done on Nintendo's latest console.
Considering that the Switch 2 is significantly more powerful than the original Switch, and we're already seeing the release of several high-profile games that would normally have skipped the first Switch console, it's not that crazy to think that Rockstar and Take-Two would want to expand the pie with a Switch 2 release.
This also follows previous rumors that Take-Two would like to support Switch 2. Last February, well before the Switch 2 was officially released, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged that the company had a long-standing partnership with Nintendo that could help it grow.
“We’ve obviously had a long relationship with Nintendo,” Zelnick said. “We supported platforms when appropriate for individual releases.”
Perhaps more interesting is the acknowledgment that Nintendo's changing audience could benefit from more support.
“There was a time when the Nintendo platform targeted a younger audience, and this was reflected in our release schedule,” he added. “With the current Switch and potentially Switch 2, Switch devices can support all audiences.”
In the past, Nintendo has seen some Rockstar support.
As of now, the much-maligned GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition has a Nintendo Switch port, but the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto 5 does not. Likewise, LA Noire was released on Switch, another Rockstar title.
It was recently revealed that the remaster of Red Dead Redemption will include a Switch 2 port that will be free to those who own the original Switch 1 version of Red Dead Redemption. Of course, we'd be happy to know that GTA: Chinatown Wars, one of the best and most underrated Grand Theft Auto titles, was a Nintendo DS title! That said, there is a history and familiarity that makes things more likely.
