Like most boss fights in the game, it's not about fighting the enemy, but rather getting information about the fight and figuring out how to finish it. Of all the bosses in the game, Zephon is the only one that feels like an actual boss fight.

How to Defeat Dumah in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
When the players find Dumah, he will be sitting on a large throne with various wooden stakes embedded in his body. The player can awaken Dumah by approaching him and pulling all three stakes from his body. But they must postpone doing so before they know how to fight him. Unlike past boss fights, players are not limited to a single boss arena to face the enemy. Some players may think the key to defeating Dumah is to use the stake again, but this doesn't work and the actual course of action is to run out of the room you find Dumah.
As the player moves through the fortress of Dumah, paths will open up that did not exist before. One of them will be a huge furnace room. Players must charge a path from this furnace room to Dumah's lair so that they can lure Dumah there. If needed, players can find various images of all the nooks and crannies needed to get to this room in Dumah's lair, as well as a step-by-step list below.
- Head east along the red carpet and exit Dumah's room.
- Go around the collapsed obelisk and into the eastern hallway.
- Turn and head south in the sunlight.
- Go up the ramp and head west.
- As you head west, you will cross a bridge.
- Go to the westernmost part of the next room and go through the doorway.
- Follow this winding hallway to the furnace room. Make sure Dumah is following you.
If the player gets too far ahead of Dumah, Dumah will turn around and return to his lair. The player will then have to start the whole process again. Players should never jump, but should instead continue to run into the room. This gives Dumah time to catch up if the player is stunned by his rolling attack. Players can stop and look back to make sure Dumah isn't falling too far behind.
When you get to the furnace room, there is a wheel on the west side of the room and a lever on the east side. Once inside the room, players must head west and turn the wheel to open various gas valves. The player must then lure Dumah into the center of the room before pulling the lever to the east. This will ignite the gas and defeat Dumah. This allows players to create trails of spectral energy that can be used to bind enemies or interact with specific objects.
Dumah can get stuck on the western platform. When this happens, the player must stand with an open path between the two so he can run to Raziel and then be lured back to the walkway.
