Unknown 9: Awakening – Best Upgrades to Do First

Unknown 9: Awakening has a surprisingly large skill tree, but some upgrades are simply better than others.

This can reveal all kinds of information, including giving insight into the world beyond just what the Ascendants are doing and how their plans affect people. Some are left behind by the Ascendants themselves, and range from sad memories to someone wanting to smoke a cigarette.

letter 1	Rishat structure	Kill the two Scrappers nearby, then follow the path to an area surrounded by crates containing a tent, explosives, and a few bags of supplies. The letter is on a pile of sandbags.

letter 2	Rishat structure	After going through the small tunnel with Reika into the camp, head right out of the crack in the wall and up the ridge with the large tent. The letter is on the table with a lighted lamp next to the shelf.

letter 3	Rishat structure	After disabling the force field and killing the scraper, go to the tarp-covered area in the lower left corner of the camp and the letter will be on the table between the blackboard and the camera.


letter 4	Rishat structure	When you get close to the area with the sandstorm, jump over the pit to the bridge, then follow Reika down to the ledge with tall grass below it. Turn right and a letter will be on the table next to the open book.

letter 5	Charmiri	Go through the locked door, go down the stairs, turn left and enter the courtyard. Smash the crates along the edge and the letter will be on a large stone brick block in the corner.

letter 6	Charmiri	After killing the Ascendant on the roof, jump onto the flowering vines, then climb up and take the stairs down to the room. The letter is in a box near the vine-covered window in the corner.


letter 7	Charmiri	Cross the thin beam connecting the two buildings and carry the box up to the roof. Destroy the crates in front of the nearby lattice wall, then pause for a moment before crawling and jumping off the ledge. Turn right and the letter will be in the right chest.

letter 8	Charmiri	After killing the Ascendants in the courtyard, go up the stairs to the covered area near where the Gunner was and destroy the crates blocking the nearby doorway. The letter is on a wooden table in the center of the room.

letter 9	Quinta Matos	Go up the stairs to the second floor of the mansion, turn the corner to the right and enter a room full of paintings. Turn around and go to the corner of the room, then through the bathroom and into the bedroom. The letter is on a desk in the corner of the room, next to a lit lamp.

letter 10	Quinta Matos	Once the Phantom is dead and the secret bookshelf door opens, take the elevator shaft to the lab on the lower level. When you stop by the open door, you'll find a letter on a square table next to a large green fuse box.

letter 11	Quinta Matos	When Matos leaves, kill all the Ascendants in the courtyard, and when Luther opens the door, enter the greenhouse with him. Go up the stairs on the left and the letter will be on a wooden table next to a flower pot.

letter 12	Quinta Matos	Go down to the area full of Ascendants and kill them, then approach the stairs blocked by the Forcefield, stopping just before you reach them. The letter is in front of the table next to a lit lamp.
