Tactics Ogre: Reborn has a lot of characters. Protagonists, villains, villains who become protagonists, and protagonists who become villains. As will many strategy RPGs, it’s possible to amass quite the army.

There are tons of classes to experiment with in Tactics Ogre: Reborn – here’s how to unlock them all.

Some of these characters will join you automatically, but most other characters have some requirements that you’ll have to fulfill first. These range from keeping them alive in a battle to more complex, sometimes infuriating methods.

Many of these characters have specific time spans in which they can be recruited. If you’re following along with this guide, make sure you attempt to recruit these characters as soon as they’re available.

The characters are listed in the order that you can recruit them, so make sure you’re trying to go for them as soon as their recruitment conditions can be met.

Chapter 1

	Class	Recruitment
Canopus	Vartan	Canopus will join automatically at the start of the battle at Tynemouth Hill.
Donnalto	Cleric	In the battle at Krysaro, keep Donnalto alive to recruit him at the end.
Felicia	Cleric	If Donnalto dies during the battle at Krysaro, Felicia will join instead.
Sara	Archer	Sara joins at the end of the battle in Krysaro.
Voltare	Knight	Voltare joins at the end of the battle in Krysaro.

Chapter 2 – Lawful Route

	Xapan	Berserker	Save Xapan in the battle at Qadriga Fortress to recruit him. Xapan can also be recruited in Chapter 4, but only on the Lawful route and only if he survives without being recruited in this chapter.

Chapter 2 – Chaotic Route

	Class	Recruitment
Arycelle	Archer	Arycelle will join as a guest when you beat the battle at Xeod Moors if she survives. Keep her alive through the next few battles and she’ll join as a regular party member after the battle in Tynemouth Hill. Arycelle can be recruited in this chapter or Lawful Chapter 3.
Cistina	Valkyrie	When you reach Boed Fortress, if you’ve had Folcurt and Bayin join you as guests and they’ve both survived every battle until now, you can ask Cistina to join you. She must have survived the battle in Chapter 1. Cistina is exclusive to this chapter.
Folcurt	Knight	In Krysaro, agree to help Folcurt and he’ll join you as a guest. Keep him alive until Boed Fortress, make sure Bayin joins you too and survives until you meet Cistina. When you invite Cistina to join you, Folcurt will also come along. Folcurt is exclusive to this chapter.
Bayin	Wizard	Keep Bayin alive during the battle at Qadriga Fortress and agree to his request to gain him as a guest. As long as you have both him and Folcurt along when you reach Boed Fortress and ask Cistina to join you, he’ll also join with her. Bayin is exclusive to this chapter.

Chapter 3 – Lawful Route

Jeunan	Dragoon	After the battles in Brigantys, there will be a choice to make in the cutscene directly after. Answer with the second response to get Jeunan. Jeunan is exclusive to this chapter.
Ravness	Valkyrie	We have a dedicated guide to recruiting Ravness that you can find here. Ravness is exclusive to this chapter.
Vyce	Ranger	Vyce will join your party upon recapturing Almorica Castle. Vyce is exclusive to this chapter.
Arycelle	Archer	Arycelle will join your party upon recapturing Almorica Castle as long as you didn’t kill her or let her die in any battle in Chapter 2, apart from the one in Port Asyton. Arycelle can be recruited here or in Chaotic Chapter 2.
Mirdyn	White Knight	Mirdyin will join your party upon recapturing Almorica Castle. Mirdyn will join on all three routes.
Gildas	White Knight	Gildas will join your party upon recapturing Almorica Castle. Gildas will also join you on the Chaotic route.
Hobyrim	Swordmaster	Hobyrim will join your party if he survives the battle against Ozma in the Arkhaiopolis of Rhime. Hobyrim can join you on any route.

Chapter 3 – Neutral Route

Mirdyn	White Knight	Mirdyn will join you at Almorica Castle. Mirdyn will join on all three routes.
Phaesta	Valkyrie	After the battle at Tynemouth Hill against Ganpp, head to Krysaro before going to Port Asyton. This will open up an optional battle at Qadriga Fortress. Make sure that Phaesta, Chamos, and Tamuz survive the battle at Qadriga Fortress to recruit them all at the same time. Phaesta, Chamos, and Tamuz are exclusive to this route.

Hobyrim	Swordmaster	You can recruit Hobyrim after the battle at Qadriga Fortress by giving him the first dialogue option when presented with a choice. Hobyrim can join you on any route.
Oelias	Cleric	Save Oelias and Dievold at the battle in Port Asyton to recruit them. Oelias and Dievold are exclusive to this route.
Dievold	Terror Knight

Chapter 3 – Chaotic Route

	Class	Recruitment
Hobyrim	Swordmaster	In the battle at Bahanna Highlands, save Hobyrim to recruit him after the fight. Hobyrim can join you on any route.
Mirdyn	White Knight	When you return to Almorica Castle, Mirdyn will join you. Mirdyn will join on all three routes.
Gildas	White Knight	When you return to Almorica Castle, Gildas will join you. Gildas will also join you on the Lawful route.
Cerya	Valkyrie	Cerya will join you automatically after the battle at Boed Fortress. Cerya may also be recruited in Chapter 4 if you’re on the Neutral route.

Chapter 4

	Class	Recruitment
Olivya	Cleric	Olivya will automatically join you after the battles at Brigantys Castle. This will happen no matter which route you are on.
Cressida	Necromancer	We have a dedicated guide to recruiting Cressida that you can find here. Cressida can only be recruited on a Chaos playthrough.
Sherri	Witch	In the battle at Hagia Banhamuba, reduce Sherri to critical HP without killing her. She will escape with a Shiftstone. After the following cutscenes in Coritanae, enter Balmamusa while it is raining to recruit Sherri. You only have a short period of time to recruit Sherri, so make sure you’re doing this as soon as she’s available. You can make it rain in Balmamusa by entering a Training battle there and using multiple Horns of the Savage. Once it’s stormy, retreat from the battle, leave Balmamusa, and then re-enter. There’s a small chance it stops raining heavily – just try again. You can recruit Sherri on any route.
Cerya	Valkyrie	[Neutral Route Only] After the events at Hagia Banhamuba, go to Krysaro. This opens up a new Talk topic – Pirates of Qadriga Fortress. Go to the new battle in Qadriga – at the start of the fight, Ehlrig will ask you a question. Reply with the “Will you aid us?” response and the fight will end immediately, letting you recruit both Cerya and Ehlrig. Ehlrig is only available here, while Cerya can also be recruited in Chaotic Chapter 3.
Ehlrig	Cleric
Ozma	Knight Commander	We have a dedicated guide to recruiting Ozma that you can find here. Thanks to requiring Jeunan, Ozma is only available on the Lawful route.
Xapan	Berserker	If you don’t already have him recruited, reducing him to critical health during a fight in Golyat will let you recruit him. Xapan may only be recruited here on the Lawful route and if he survived Chapter 2 without being recruited.
Catiua	Princess	We have a dedicated guide to recruiting Catiua that you can read here. Catiua can be recruited on any route.
Azelstan	Buccaneer	We have a dedicated guide to recruiting Azelstan that you can read here. Azelstan can be recruited on any route.
Lindl	Fusilier	After the events at Barnicia and Phidoch, read the Talk topic Rhamsen Wreck Raised and go to Grimsby. In the battle here, make sure Lindl survives, and he’ll join when you win. Lindl can be recruited on any route.
Ocionne	Beast Tamer	After the events at Barnicia and Phidoch, read the Talk topic Mysterious Blast at Exeter. Make your way to Vasque, dealing with all the battles on the way, and then head north to Lhazan Fortress. In the battle here, deploy Jeunan and make sure you witness every dialogue between Ocionne, Jeunan, and Denam – you’ll know you’ve seen them all when Denam states that Jeunan’s remorse is sincere. Then finish the battle, but not before then, and make sure Ocionne survives. This battle is made harder by how fragile the boss is. You may have to heal him to prolong the battle enough to view all the dialogue. Ocionne can only be recruited on the Lawful route.
Ganpp	Beast Tamer	After the battle at Grimsy, read the Talk topic The Bandits of Neimrahava to open up Neimrahava Wood. In the battle there, reduce Ganpp to critical health without killing either of his Gryphons. He will join, along with Obda and Berda, his Gryphon pets. Ganpp can be recruited on any route.
Obda and Berda	Gryphon	Obda and Berda will join along with Ganpp, whose recruitment is detailed just above.
Deneb	Witch	We have a dedicated guide to recruiting Deneb that you can find here. Deneb can be recruited on any route.
Rudlum	Warlock	Read the Talk topic Mysterious Blast at Exeter to unlock the path to the Palace of the Dead. Fight your way there and start descending in the Palace of the Dead – on the second floor, make sure Rudlum survives the battle to recruit him. Rudlum can be recruited on any route.

CODA

Class	Recruitment
Iuria	Songstress	In CODA episode one, read about Iuria in the Talk topic and then head to Port Omish. Escape the ensuing battle by moving your units to the entrance. Then, read the new Talk topic about Iuria, close the Warren Report, then open it again for yet another new Talk topic. Go to the Pirate’s Graveyard and fight your way right to the end to recruit Iuria.
Warren	Astromancer	Reach Floor 115 of the Palace of the Dead during CODA episode two and make sure Warren survives the battle against Rodrick and your doppelgangers. This is only available if you have Catiua and Mirdyn canonically alive and recruited – in other words, you can’t access CODA from a Neutral playthrough, and Catiua must survive after the Chapter 4 events in Barnicia.
Lanselot	Holy Knight	In CODA episode three, there are two battles at the Arkhaiopolis of Rhime – make sure Lanselot survives the second one to recruit him.

This is only available if you have Catiua and Mirdyn canonically alive and recruited – in other words, you can’t access CODA from a Neutral playthrough, and Catiua must survive after the Chapter 4 events in Barnicia.

Lanselot

In CODA episode three, there are two battles at the Arkhaiopolis of Rhime – make sure Lanselot survives the second one to recruit him.

How To Recruit Generic Units

Along with the named characters you can recruit within the story and the generic units you can hire from towns and cities, you can also recruit enemy units within battles.

To do this, you’ll need to learn certain recruitment skills that are usable in battle. The skills work only on certain races, so you’ll need to be specific with the recruitment skills you go for.

Recruitment Tips

For a successful in-battle recruitment, a few key factors come into play:

Low HP: The target unit’s HP shouldbe low, ideally critically.
Proximity: The recruiting unit must be standing adjacent to the target unit.
Loyalty: The target unit should have low loyalty to their current army for the best reults. You can check a unit’s general loyalty by highlighting their name and viewing the Condition in the menu – look for descriptions that indicate discontent or fear.
No Status Effects: The target unit cannot be afflicted with any major status effects that would logically prevent them from having a conversation, for example Sleep.
