Act 3 Baldur's Gate 3 There are a lot of murders, more than in the previous two acts combined, and a lot of accusations are being made. From the moment the player starts Act 3, the city is on the verge of tearing itself apart, and with a tyrannical robot police overseeing the populace, tensions are always high. To make matters worse, a local and beloved religious leader has been murdered in what appears to be a murder-suicide while being supported and protected by refugees. At least that’s what the city claims.
Upon entering Act 3 and the city of Rivington, the player will encounter the Open Hand Temple, a religious temple with some commotion going on outside. The Open Hand Temple normally accepts refugees, but is currently closed due to the recent murder of its leader, Father Logan. Father Logan is believed to have been murdered by Brillgor, one of the aforementioned welcomed refugees. Talking to people both inside and outside the temple will give the player a variety of theories as to what actually happened, but no one knows for sure the truth. To begin the quest to uncover the truth, the player must speak to Sister Yannis and offer her help in solving the murders. The investigator in charge of uncovering the truth, a holy man named Valeria, is convinced that Brillgor is guilty.
Sister Yannis offers a number of points of interest for players to investigate, and there is no particular order to completing them. This guide specifically covers one of the most direct routes, which begins with examining Father Lorgan’s body in the room at the southwestern end of the temple.
Updated by Nahda Nabiilah on September 23, 2024: The Open Hand Temple Murders have to be one of the most complex cases players will face in Baldur's Gate 3. A murderer is out and about, killing all the citizens in the name of Bhaal and collecting their hands. Follow the murderer's footsteps and use a few Spells/Potions to Talk to the Dead in Baldur's Gate 3Tabb must gather enough clues to catch the person responsible for the incident and protect the people of Baldur's Gate City.
How to solve Open Hand Temple Murders in Baldur's Gate 3
Unfortunately, there isn't much to note about Father Lorgan's body right away, unless the player thinks a little outside the box. The best course of action here is for the player to use the “Speak with the Dead” ability to speak directly with Father Lorgan. This will allow the player to ask him a variety of questions, including where, when, how, and more importantly, who killed him. Father Lorgan will reveal that Brilgor was killed not by the person who killed him, but by a “dwarf in red.”
After talking to Father Lorgan, the player should leave a character in the party who can talk to the dead, as the task is not over yet. In the room with Father Lorgan's body, the player should exit through the back door and enter the door leading to the kitchen directly across from it. Before heading to the hatch mentioned by Sister Yannis, the player should instead go through the door to the west of the kitchen and go down and follow the stairs leading out.
Here, the player will follow the path through the cemetery and come across a grave next to a small mausoleum. Interacting with the dirt pile will allow the player to dig up Brilgor's coffin, and attacking it with a character will reveal Brilgor's corpse. Once again, the player will need to use the Death-Speaking Companion to gather more details from the so-called “murderer” Brilgor.
Now that the players have had enough time to talk to the dead and gather relevant details, it is time to head to the murder scene. Return to the kitchen and enter the hatch mentioned by Sister Yannis. This will lead to the basement of the Open Hand Temple. Once inside, the player will follow a hallway until they reach a large room with two statues, an altar, and a very prominent panel on the wall that opens behind it.
Directly across from the altar is another room filled with buried corpses, which are not related to this quest, but are an important part of the “Help the Cursed Monk” quest that the player may have started in Act II. When the player is ready to continue, they should check the wall right next to the two statues. There, they will find an interactive plaque that reads “Herald Sign”, interacting with which will cause buttons to appear on either side. Pressing the buttons will open the wall panels, allowing the player to continue on to the murder scene.
As the player steps into the room of the murder scene, they are thrown into an unavoidable and unavoidable fight. Players must now ensure that their team is rested, equipped, and properly organized before proceeding through the open wall panels!
After the player has defeated and looted the enemies, they should also loot all the nearby corpses, which are probably the victims of the people the player just defeated. Among these victims is the corpse of Dribbles the Clown, looting this corpse is a very important part of another Act 3 side quest that the player has probably already started.
The other victim will have a “Flower Key” which will allow the player to proceed to the next part of the quest. There is also a hole in the ground near the wooden platform which can be searched to find the murder weapon, “Steelmaker”. The player must have high enough Perception to find this hole on their own. Before leaving, the player can use the ability to talk to the dead again to interrogate the person who attacked them, but this step is entirely optional.
Where to use the flower key in Baldur's Gate 3
Now that the player has found the Flower Key, they will take on the most important part of solving the murder case. The question is: What does it unlock? The answer can be found at the nearby inn, Fraygo's Flophouse. However, getting to the Flophouse can be a potentially more complicated endeavor than the player anticipates. To reach the Flophouse, the player must first pass through the South Span Checkpoint, located just north of the Open Hand Temple. This checkpoint is guarded by five Fist units and one large Steel Watcher, and is close enough that various other Fist units can join in on any fights that may occur here.
Due to the nature of Baldur's Gate 3The experience of passing this checkpoint can vary depending on the various choices the player has made so far, some players can pass through dialogue, some must fight or face imprisonment, and some may be bypassed in other ways. If the player needs an alternate way to pass this checkpoint, they can choose between “Fly” and ” Misty Step” The character can turn or pass checkpoints without triggering an interrogation. Additionally, if the player is locked in a prison, there is a very high chance of escaping.
Once the player has passed the South Span Checkpoint and entered Wyrm's Crossing, it is time to head to Fraygo's Flophouse. The Flophouse is located immediately after the checkpoint, with a door directly to the player's left. The player can accuse the employee of being the murderer in a silly conversation, but the real thing the player is looking for here is upstairs. The player heads upstairs and, after turning the corner to the first entrance on the right, will come across a ladder leading to the attic of the Flophouse.
In a very messy attic, the player will find a seemingly incongruous and clean wardrobe, which is actually a secret entrance that can be opened with the flower key the player looted earlier. Upon entering this room, the desk directly to the player's right contains what the player is looking for: a journal revealing that the murders were part of a Bhaalist plot, as well as a hit list of other intended targets.
Where to find investigator Valeria in Baldur's Gate 3
Now that the players have enough evidence that Brilgor is innocent and that Father Lorgan was murdered as part of a serial murder plot in the name of the god Bhaal, it is time for the players to report their findings to their Hollyphant friend Valeria, who can be found on the second floor of Sharess' Caress, just across from the Flophouse.
If Valeria is not there for some reason, the player has likely progressed too far in the main plot, and she will be available later elsewhere. Talking to Valeria will complete the Open Hand Temple Murders quest, and she will send the player on a new questline surrounding the planned murders and the Bhaalist cult.
Where to Find the Serial Killer in Baldur's Gate 3 and How to Stop Him
Once you know that the serial killer is a Baalist with a list of targets, a marker will appear on the player's map pointing to the location of the victims. Search Cora And then they head to her wine tasting party. Tav sees Cora, her husband, and Dolor Meztli enjoying the wine. The best course of action here is to warn her, which will only upset Dolor, because he is a serial killer.
The party immediately enters into battle with Dolor and his doppelgangers. After defeating everyone, Cora is safe, but the real Dolor has escaped to finish off his next victim. In this case, Figaro Pennygood. Head to Pacemaker Boutique In the lower city, we see Dolor already aiming his sword at Fiagro. A cutscene shows Devella lying on the ground, confirming that Figaro is still in danger whether Tav meets her or not.
If Tav decides to sneak up and surprise the Bhaalist, the victim will die instantly. Make your presence known to save the shop owner. And defeat the serial killer. Talk to Devella, then loot the bodies to find the hands of previous victims and more evidence. Dolor also has some great items, such as potions, spells, and a decent dagger. Once Tabga confirms that the shopkeeper is safe, Piagro will offer the player a discount on all items.
