It takes a lot of courage to admit that you've missed the mark, whether it's through playing a video game or something. But when sentiment for a game has plummeted and fans are counting on the developer to brighten its future, there is little choice but to take responsibility for the mistakes and move forward. When I visited Bungie earlier this month to check out the new Renegades expansion; Destiny 2 Design lead Tyson Green did just that. It was a refreshing and setting the tone for two days of experiencing the future of live service gaming.
Since playing the new Renegades content. Destiny 2Bungie revealed how it plans to improve the game in December. Although the content roadmap will have to wait until 2026, there was a clear message: Bungie wants to take fan feedback, leverage it, and build on it. Destiny 2 Better.
Hearing Green accepts responsibility for mistakes. Destiny 2 I made Edge of Fate and Ash, and Iron was inconvenient but felt necessary. A cloud of uncertainty hung over Destiny 2 Ahead of this event, some speculated that Renegades could be the game's final content release. There will be no such funeral. fate It continues.
Bungie knows it needs to do better for Destiny 2 fans.
Green and various Bungie developers explained that the plan is simple. It starts with Renegades and doesn't stop. We've already seen that Bungie is willing to make significant changes to improve the gaming experience. Destiny 2 Over time since practice, the changes have received positive feedback from players. In fact, many of the major system-level reinventions that Bungie introduced with Edge of Fate were almost completely removed, or at least reimplemented, in later games. In particular, the power leveling grind has been revamped several times, making it easy to go up to 550. also, The original plan to increase the power level cap for Renegades was scrapped.
Why focus on apples as new content emerges?
You can read my thoughts on the new Lawless Frontier act Renegades and my interview with Ben Womack and Robbie Stevens on the site. But I wanted to explain what it was like to come into Bungie during a really slow time for the studio. The last time I visited Bungie was Destiny 2 Before launch when it seemed like the developers could do no wrong. Live services were booming, dozens of games were imitating Destiny's blueprint, and the future looked very bright.
Bungie didn't need to address the elephant in the room
I wondered if Bungie would simply focus on new Renegades content. Developers will avoid questions about the future or community sentiment.. Fortunately, every conversation I've had with a Bungie developer has included some acknowledgment that the studio needs to do better for its fans. Whether it's listening to feedback and making changes, or better anticipating what players want from new content, even if it means canceling core systems entirely, as we saw with the recent Call to Arms event, Bungie is determined to right the ship.
Responding to the Latest Destiny 2 With balance changes, exotic tuning, and a breakdown of new content, the community seems to be excited about Renegades. My time with the Renegades patch has been too short to tell if these changes are significant or game-changing, but Renegades has a feel that brings back that good feeling. fate expansion.
There were concerns that this would feel like a cash grab, a Star Wars collaboration that ignored its core identity. Destiny 2. But Renegades has everything I like about new content. Epic music, interesting characters, and new weapon archetypes – and it never feels forced. There are strong similarities: fate With the universe star warsBungie is in on this. Developers find logical ways to draw connections between concepts. star warsBut this isn't an experience built on forced cameos.
At the time of writing, it's unclear how Bungie will address the community ahead of Renegades' release. Additionally, it's unclear what impact the Star Wars-inspired additions will have on the game. Is this a shot in the arm the game desperately needs, or will players just log in on Day 1 and be gone the following week?
Whatever happens in the end Destiny 2 Going forward, Bungie has made it clear that it will not give up on the game. We hope to reclaim our community by taking ownership of our mistakes and pledging to do better.
