The latest hero shooter to take over the gaming world is Marvel Rivals, an upcoming game from NetEase Games and Marvel Game. Players can choose from characters like Magneto, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Rocket Raccoon, and more in 6v6 matches, and engage in an all-out battle royale to stop the villain Doctor Doom.
But the good Doctor isn't the only one watching these battles. A mysterious woman with cosmic powers is overseeing the fight. At first glance, you might mistake her for Galactus, but she's not. The judge of these battles is a being known as Galacta.
Who is Galacta?
Don't worry if you don't recognize Galacta at first. Galacta, also known as Gali, is an unofficial character introduced in the short-lived comic Galacta: Daughter of Galactus from 2009 to 2010, and also appeared in an anthology special called The Marvel Assistant-Sized Spectactular, a fun comic set in a separate universe called Earth-610102 in the greater Marvel Multiverse.
Adam Warren and Hector Seville Luzan bring Galacta to life in The Marvel Assistant-Sized Spectacular, pushing the boundaries of what a fun character can be in the Marvel universe.
In the comics, Galacta is a normal young woman who blends in well with the human population, but always seems hungry. The ability to suppress her enormous appetite She has made a living on Earth as a blogger and foodie, although she doesn't have a good relationship with her father, the world-eater Galactus, who doesn't need to destroy entire worlds to satisfy them. She even has her own X (formerly Twitter) account, though it hasn't been updated since 2009.
How strong is she?
She has occasionally done heroic deeds, but has remained out of the public eye. When her hunger became too great, she would devour an intergalactic threat to Earth, devouring the Earthlings without their knowledge. However, she has not been seen in the Marvel universe since then, until her introduction in Marvel Rivals. She was left in an ambiguous universe and considered unofficial in the main Marvel timeline. Like her estranged father, Galacta possesses many of the same powers as Galactus, though some of them are weaker due to her being much younger than her father. She possesses a few special abilities that put her ahead of most of the Marvel heroes on Earth.
Some of her most powerful abilities include her ability to understand the nature of everything around her, including her cosmic awareness of the world around her. This helps make her one of the most intelligent beings in the universe, much like her father. One of her primary abilities is: The ability to consume any substance she choosesShe transforms into pure energy to sate her endless hunger. While her father was forced to consume endlessly throughout his existence, Galacta is able to control her hunger much better. However, when she becomes too hungry, her powers can go berserk, amplifying her abilities to greater levels.
Most of her cosmic powers grant her numerous other abilities that can be tied to the title of being near-godly. She can fly, teleport, control the weather, read minds, and many more. More importantly, she is an evolved form of Galactus, and possesses abilities similar to his. But she has a level of originality that her father lacks. She led her father to find creative solutions to the problems that plagued him.
The most important thing is that Galacta doesn't seem to be like that either. Galactus is bound by the necessity of the universe. He acts as a sort of cosmic mediator between the other cosmic entities of Eternity and Death, balancing the two and ensuring that one does not overwhelm the other. Galacta does not have to deal with that level of responsibility, so she can focus on other things and enjoy her life.
So what is Galacta doing in Marvel Rivals?
Her role in Marvel Rivals seems very similar to Athena's role in Overwatch 2. The position of narrator and passive observerPerhaps he’s the one who sets up the player’s matches to some extent. We’ll have to wait until Marvel Rivals launches later this year to find out more, but Galacta makes for a fun addition to the game as someone who oversees events as they’ve been foretold, similar to the Watcher in the main Marvel lore.
With her return to the Marvel Comics fandom, it’s not unlikely that Galacta will return with her own comic book arc, possibly even appearing in the main 616 universe alongside all the other heroes and villains you love.
