Orders that are meaningless in dungeons and dragons

Creating a magic system in all media is not easy. It is necessary to have other supervisions that can occur when inventing a series of rules to solve contradictions, redundancy and other supervision by paying time, effort and tremendous attention for details. Fortunately, Dungeon & Dragon 50 and 5 (ISH) Editions improve their spelling and guide them, creating a magic system with a relatively iron for this beloved table game.

But even after decades of revision, the system still has some gaps. Some are meaningful in terms of gameplay, but not much from the point of view of the universe. Others do not seem to have little description or actually used. For this reason, D & D still has no meaning.

Change the self

Step 2 deformation

DND-TIEFLING-SORCER

Through this order, D & D players can use one of the three choices to change the body for new purposes. One option is Aquatic Adaptation, which gives users' gills and web beds. The other is called natural weapons, where the user grows horns, fangs or toenails that can be used in battle. The main reason for this spell is meaningless is the third effect choice: exterior change. This basically imitates the effect of the spell disguise self, which is a lower level of order and a more commonly learned spell.

Another effect is a physical change that affects the way the user interacts with the world. You can damage slashes with underwater breathing or new toenails. When the shape changes, the user may take the appearance of another race, but the statistics do not change, suggesting that the effect is not physical but fantastic. Instead of dealing with the effects of other spells, why not provide an additional body change option that players can't find elsewhere?

Send a stone

Transmission can be a valuable order, especially if the party is divided by itself. This allows users to send a message to a familiar creature up to 25 words. There is no limit to this spell, but sending a message to another plane is a 5%chance of failing.

Still, the question still remains. Why 25 words? From a game design point of view, if you limit the message, the order will not be overwhelmed and forced the player to think creatively. But the universe feels a bit arbitrary. How is the order determined when you reach the number of words? Is the term with hypen, such as “depth” or “large”, is one word or two words? Certain players can get Pedantic for these details.

viewless

Step 2 illusion

Astarion-Visible

What is invisible is classic in all fantasy environments. Drink a potion, order, or pull the hood of the cloak to easily disappear. Several casting classes of D & D can use this relatively low level of spells to see themselves or other wills. But it is not impossible.

The invisible creatures end the effect when you cast, attack or damage your spells. But why? The game has no other spells or conditions that end in this way. Because of this behavior does not fail concentration, breaking concentration is not a problem (except for new orders that require concentration). From a gameplay balance point of view, it makes sense. If you can go around invisible and attack with injustice, a lot of meetings will be trivial. But the universe has no explanation.

Use animals

3rd Level Conju Gate

Owl Beer DND

This order is mentioned because the name is misleading. The creatures summoned by the player when casting this spell are actually natural souls that take the form of beasts, not animals. The player can choose the best form they take, but appears as a spectrum without being completely formed.

This is an important difference in terms of gameplay. Natural spirit is generally Fey, which can be affected differently depending on the actual animal and specific orders or conditions. Players who want to summon animal companions using this spell can be surprised to find themselves when they get a minion instead.

Legendary knowledge

5th point

D & D library

Legend Lore, which can be used in various spell casting classes, allows users to immediately learn important knowledge of famous people, places or things. Geting information about the magic item or mysterious enemies that the party pursues can be a very useful way. However, some specifications of the order description are open to interpretation.

What should the “famous” person, place or object do for orders to work? According to the explanation, the order will fail with the sad musical stab if the selected items/people/positions are not actually famous. Does “famous” mean that they must know the subject throughout the campaign environment? Or is it enough if a few people like the sacred place of secret worship are highly regarded? This order can reveal almost unknown secrets about the chosen topic, but what is famous? Of course, all of this depends on the discretion of the DM, but the terrible explanation of the spell can be difficult to use.

exile

4th level Abjuration

Dungeon and Dragon 2024 Monster Manual Red Wizard Cultist (1)

This order looks quite simple on the surface. The user aims to succeed charismatic savings or to be taken to another plane. When the creature starts on another plane, they will not send back and return.

However, if the creature is unique to the deported plane, it is sent to the harmless Demi Pen Line instead of the order period. This lasts for 1 minute. This is questionable whether this order can be considered useful for creatures, not aliens. What is the point that prohibits enemies on this plane? Can it appear again in delivery?
