Game Freak Had Bigger Plans for Black and White 2
As first shared on Twitter by Centro Leaks, the man responsible for the prolific info dump, Game Freak originally planned to add more new Pokémon to Black and White 2. However, due to poor reception in the West, those plans appear to have been scrapped for older Pokemon.
The design conceived was used for Pokémon X and Y. The Kalos region of X and Y and its creatures served as the sixth generation of Pokémon, but the nostalgia influence was still widespread, as X and Y still had many original characters. .
Information about the plans came from a series of leaked conversations. “Pokemon isn't just a local game translated for the world. It's a global game now,” the employee noted. The conversation continues with, “Unfortunately, I think we'll have to put the old Pokemon in the sequel and skip the new Pokemon.”
Despite a lot of work, we believe that “there cannot be a region with poor access. A brand should be loved by all regions.” Due to the backlash, it looked like the Gen V Mega Evolution would be scrapped. Instead, those giant evolutions were placed on older Pokémon like Charizard.
Depending on which side of the fandom you fall on, this could be a fortunate or unfortunate development. While some certainly like the presence of the original Pokémon, there's no shortage of people who would like to see new creatures and ideas instead. Either way, it's interesting to see how much influence fan feedback has.
