A new patent from Nintendo hints at a very important feature for the Switch 2 console, and seems to confirm previous reports about the system.
Posted on Twitter by tech accessories company JSAUX, it's a new split transparent ergonomic protective case. The case appears to fit the look of the Nintendo Switch 2, particularly some details about how the handheld parts and Joy-Con connect. JSAUX's photos only show the back of the Switch successor console, showing the Joy-Con controller's trigger buttons, rear stand, power and volume buttons, and fan ventilation.
Switch leaks and rumors reveal possible features
It's important to note that there are already a few questions about this particular image. That's because it appears to be based on much older leaks of the successor console from September 2024, specifically a 3D printed mockup of the Switch 2 based on leaked specs. Notably, the similarity between the image posted by JSAUX and the September 2024 leak is the SL/SR buttons being modified, along with the Joy-Con's new release lever. That's why fans should keep a close eye on this image posted by JXAUX.
One of the few aspects confirmed for the upcoming console is the Nintendo Switch 2's backward compatibility, meaning games previously released on Switch will be playable on the successor console. Additionally, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the Nintendo Switch Online service and accounts created for it will be transferred to Switch 2.
