There are many different types of monsters and villains in video games, from those of pure malice and aggression to misunderstood villains. But there is another type of antagonist. These are people who are power-hungry and will go to any lengths to gain power.
Arguably, they are one of the scariest villains you will encounter because they will do anything to get their way. Some people go so far as to literally become monsters to achieve their goals. That's what this article is about. A devastating and terrifying moment when a video game character becomes so corrupted that he turns into a monster himself.

7 captain ferris
Callisto Protocol
Captain Leon Ferris is the main antagonist of Callisto Protocol. He was one of the high-ranking officers at Blackwell Prison, where protagonist Jacob Lee was imprisoned after his ill-fated crash into the April of Callisto.
Near the end of the game, Captain Ferris makes his final appearance. However, he is noticeably larger, healthier, and appears infected. To make himself more powerful, as he always wanted, he merged himself with a specific strain of biophages, life-sucking infections that rapidly mutate and change people into aggressive zombie-like creatures.

4 Josh Washington
until dawn
Josh Washington was a pretty interesting character in Until Dawn. He orchestrated many dangerous “mischiefs” in the mountains with his friends. It's clearly a form of revenge after his sisters died from a prank played on them.
It's hard to say that Josh is purely a monster because of how complex his character is and the reasons behind his actions. But when he was taken into the mines and possessed by the spirit of a Wendigo after eating human flesh, there's no denying that he wasn't a monster at that point.
3 john hancock
fallout 4
John Hancock is probably the most notable person on this list. Because even though his exterior was terrible, he didn't change because he was power-hungry or angry. It was due to his unfortunate struggle with chemical poisoning like Jet.
John is the mayor of Goodneighbor in the Commonwealth, and if you choose him as your companion, you will have some very interesting stories and conversations. There is a lot to discover about his personality that is different from the other characters on the list.
2 Jesse Williamson/Carlos
Days Gone
Jesse Williamson, better known as Carlos, is the leader of the Rippers who threaten the settlement in Days Gone. They are vicious, merciless, and scary to encounter because they kill on the spot.
Carlos was once a member of Deacon's biker gang, but was accidentally kicked out and had his tattoos melted off by a torch. After the apocalypse, he essentially lost his mind and ruined himself by taking massive amounts of drugs with his followers. He became a horribly wounded monster and led others to do the same.
1 Dr. William Birkin
resident evil 2
Dr. Birkin's obsession with the G-Virus ultimately led to his death, and his selfish actions led to the infection of Raccoon City and the outbreak of violent cannibalism.
Dr. Birkin was involved in a research project to create a dangerous biological weapon, which is credited with his first downfall by the Society. However, he became obsessed, and after sustaining serious injuries, he injected himself with the G-Virus in a desperate attempt to save himself. Even though I knew it was unfinished and not at all safe. Become one of the scariest creatures you'll encounter in Resident Evil 2.
