The Biggest Plot Holes in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom flips the script by having Zelda take the lead while Link is kidnapped by the evil entity Null. Equipped with a powerful wand that can copy objects and creatures, Zelda must use her puzzle-solving skills to seal the portal and save the day.

The game puts a lot of effort into making the gameplay one of the most unique Zelda games out there, but there are a few things that don't make sense if you think about it. These range from silly gameplay elements to thought-provoking world-building details. Here are eight things you don't understand about The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

Why can't Zelda swing a sword?

The Legend of Zelda: Link, Echo of Wisdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom focuses on giving Zelda a magic wand that she can use to copy objects and creatures throughout Hyrule as echoes. In some ways, this is even more effective than the Master Sword that Link wields. Because Zelda can use a lot of useful tricks to get away.

But to wield the sword and use Link's signature playstyle, Zelda must tap into the hero's soul. Holding a sword is quite complicated. But perhaps Zelda needs more time to focus on mastering the blade.

What can Zelda echo?

What are the limits?

Zelda learned the Blood Heart Echo with the Echo of Wisdom.

The ability to create cloned creatures and objects makes you wonder what else you can create. Grinding rupees will always require some form of mini-game or finding rupees scattered around the world. So why not create a stir for the rupee with a get-rich-quick scheme?

Or how about enough echoes to create a Link army? Null can create echoes that fight with you during your adventure. Perhaps mastering the Tri Wand will require some upgrades. Or perhaps that is the most obvious answer. It's just a game mechanic.

Why can't Null create an Echo of the Goddess?

Even primal villains have limits

This is Link's Echo from The Legend of Zelda: Echo of Wisdom.

Null is one of the most interesting Zelda villains, she existed before the creation of Hyrule and is somewhat on the same level as the goddess. Only through their combined efforts could the Null be sealed and creation come into existence.

However, Null is very powerful, including the ability to create echoes of some of the most important characters in Hyrule. This included Ganon, Link, and in the finale, Zelda as well. I wonder if Null ever considered recreating malevolent versions of the three goddesses and immediately winning the conflict. It seems like a surefire way to get an instant win.

timeline puzzle

Link's Awakening Link is holding a sword and shield on Koholint Island.

One of the things I don't understand is the current timeline of The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom. Seeing as the game shares a similar artistic rendering to that seen in Link's Awakening, you might think this is a direct sequel.

Of course, due to the fact that Link's Awakening is loosely based on Link's actual memories, it makes sense that the two kingdoms, while similar, are slightly different. However, Zora's existence and Ganon's memories are some of the few things that can point to when and where they belong in Zelda canon. Maybe this is another Wand of Gamelon situation.

How did Ganon come back?

False Ganon detected

This is Ganon's Echo from The Legend of Zelda: Echo of Wisdom.

Ganon appears at the start of the game and fights Link before the hero is sucked into a portal. Already this raises many questions. When did Ganon return? Spoiler alert: it turns out that Ganon is actually an echo created by the game's true villain. But this also raises questions. When was Null able to collect this echo?

Null isn't the only boss that appears during your journey. Volvagia from Ocarina of Time also makes a rare appearance in this game. It is unknown whether this occurred before or after the incident.

How was Null forgotten in Hyrule history?

Major changes to Hyrule Origin Story

Null and the three goddesses from The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

Hyrule's origin story has always been simple. The three goddesses created the world of Hyrule, and when they left the land, they left behind the Triforce. While all of this is confirmed, there is one additional piece of knowledge revealed in Echoes of Wisdom.

This means that the creation of Hyrule served a purpose other than being a place for all living things to thrive. Hyrule is secretly a barrier against an entity called Null. So, since wise beings like the Deku Tree remember the creation story so accurately, how was the Null's role in the story forgotten over time?

How can no one know what the Triforce is?

prime energy

The Triforce corrupted by the energies of the Null in Echoes of Wisdom.

Another important part of Hyrule's history that seems to have been lost to time is the knowledge of the Triforce. In this game, the citizens of Hyrule simply refer to the effects of the Triforce as Prime Energy. However, key details and subsequent reveals reveal that this mentioned energy may be the only Triforce.

Now, there are many possibilities as to why this might be the case. This isn't the first time parts of Hyrule's history have been forgotten, with many games having gaps between games spanning multiple generations. Another game that leaves a lot of history confused is Breath of the Wild.

Why did the Tri-Wand disappear from history?

Another missing artifact for Zelda fans

The Master Sword is one of the most iconic items in The Legend of Zelda. Link returns again and again to help whenever he really needs it. The origin of this sword is known through Skyward Sword. But now there's a new entry in the mix. This is the Tri Wand that helps Zelda defeat Null.

Unlike other items left in unknown locations, such as Ocarina of Time and Wind Conductor, Zelda is shown equipping the Try Wand inside the castle. Therefore, we need to know the location of this artifact. In the end, this is just an item that has been added to the story, and is something that I would never have thought of in the past. Whether or not it's mentioned again will depend on future titles.
