A few days ago, The Game Awards' Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image showing part of the statue with a devil's face, a bear's head, and other fantastical iconography. Of course, this led fans to think it could be a tease for anything from God of War to Diablo and even The Elder Scrolls 6.
But yesterday, Sony Santa Monica's Corey Balog said it has nothing to do with God of War. Eventually, someone discovered the statue and revealed its full appearance, leading to speculation that it could be a new expansion pack for Diablo 4. The story has now taken another turn, as Jason Schreier has revealed that it has nothing to do with Diablo 4, but is a “good story.”
Geoff Keighley's mysterious statue isn't making fun of God of War or Diablo 4.
Replying to a Resetera thread that said Jez Corden had something to do with Diablo 4, Schreier said, “I don't know where Jez gets that from, but this statue is not teasing the Diablo 4 expansion. (I have no plans to report what it is at the moment, sorry, but it's a good thing).”
That Schreier says that's a good thing is quite the kicker. Most of us were baffled by the possibility that this was a Diablo 4 expansion, but this latest variant only supports the hype. Plus, he said, “It’s a good thing,” and got everyone into trouble.
So this isn't God of War or Diablo 4, and it doesn't look like Elder Scrolls 6 either. Where does that leave us? Soulframe is a real possibility, but Digital Extremes has its own rules for such large reveals. Saros could be another contender. Sony may be readying Housemarque's next game, but Bears and Snakes doesn't really make sense.
The Game Awards don't care about the future of video games
With the abandonment of Future Class, The Game Awards made its intentions clear.
For now, it's anyone's guess what this strange statue is teasing. It looks like we'll have no choice but to wait until The Game Awards on December 11th to finally find out what it is. Hopefully, after all this speculation, it will live up to the hype.
