Listen. There's no denying that the Minecraft movie went from being “most likely to bomb at the box office” to becoming a cultural and financial behemoth, finishing its run with a $957 million gross and launching “Chicken Jockey” in the process. It's such a big phenomenon that movie chains devote entire days to it.
But when it comes to quality – we won't miss out on your delicious food. But it's not the best acting or directed film to ever grace the silver screen. But Warner Bros. believes it does, and is now launching a campaign for its Minecraft movie ahead of awards season.
No, I'm not kidding. Jack Black's win for Best Actor is legitimate pressure.
Is there a scene in the Minecraft movie? probably not
As first discovered by Insider Gaming, WB has set up an entire page dedicated to its Minecraft Movie campaign to give it a serious run during awards season.
It's worth noting that this is a simple campaign. But campaigns are usually a precursor to actually winning the nomination before winning. This special campaign includes everything from Best Actor for Jack Black to Best Picture and Best Original Song pushing “I Feel Alive” and “Steve's Lava Chicken.”
There's no word yet on which of these will be selected as official nominees, but you'll have to give it to WB if you really want to believe what they say. At the very least, it put the Minecraft movie back on everyone's mind. Think about it. There is an approved sequel.
In other words, as crazy as it is to believe, the odds of one of those songs getting nominated somewhere are better than zero. It's not like modern movies are overflowing with original songs, and children's movies usually feature at least one nod.
Plus, I wouldn't question it if Jack Black reprized his Steve persona and actually performed the song at one of these events. That's exactly the kind of performance that will go viral, and considering how bad this show's ratings were, Black, Errr, and Steve could be the ones to turn things around. Long live the chicken jockey.
