The Most Expensive Fish In Stardew Valley

Key Takeaways

  • Earning gold in Stardew Valley through fishing can be lucrative and rewarding.
  • Void Salmon, Tiger Trout, and Stingray are some of the most profitable fish to catch.
  • Legendary fish like the Angler and the Legend can fetch the highest prices in the game.

Though there are plenty of fun ways to earn your gold in Stardew Valley, one that divides players seems to be fishing. Though the fishing mini-game takes some getting used to, once you have the rhythm down and the levels to prove it, you’ll quickly begin catching some of the most expensive fish in Stardew Valley from fishing spots around town.

Whether from crops, animal products, artisan goods, or more, this Stardew Valley guide teaches you how to make money in the game. Get ready for gold!

But if you’re looking for the most profitable fish in Stardew Valley, look no further than our list. Below, we’ve got all the details on where to find the most valuable fish in Stardew Valley, and their sale prices.

Updated on September 20th, 2024 by Noura Costany. Stardew Valley’s most recent update, 1.6, took the world by storm. The addition of a new fish, Goby, as well as the Fish Smoker made fishing that much more lucrative. The Fish Smoker multiplies the price of your fish by two, and all you need is the fish and a piece of coal. During this update, the smoked prices were added, as well as the Extended Family entry.

Void Salmon and Tiger Trout take the first spot on our list, maxing out at 450g. Tiger Trout only appear from 6AM to 7PM in the river during Fall and Winter, which isn’t too difficult to find, but the Void Salmon can be hard to get your hands on.

To get the Void Salmon, you will need access to the Witch’s Swamp, which only becomes available after you complete the Community Center and a short questline for the Wizard. After this is done, you can fish for Void Salmon all year long at any hour of the day.

The Stingray is another late-game fish, but it can be well worth the payoff. To find the Stingray, you will need to fully complete the Community Center, visit Ginger Island, restore the Beach Resort, and access Pirate Cove.

Once all of this has been done, you can finally start fishing for the Stingray, which appears in the Pirate Cove waters. Thankfully, this fish is available all day long during every season.

You’ll have plenty of good opportunities to cash in on fishing with these fish. Sturgeons and Pufferfish are both summer fish, with Sturgeons resurfacing again in the winter, while Catfish are exclusive to spring and fall.

Sturgeon appear in the Mountain Lake between 6AM and 7PM, most commonly while it’s raining. Pufferfish, meanwhile, are a great sunny-weather target in the summer, appearing at the Beach between 12PM and 4PM (or all day over on Ginger Island). Finally, the Catfish are another rainy-day catch, showing up most often in the river between town and the forest before midnight.

Part of what makes the Spook Fish so noticeable is its sale price, sure, but its exclusivity is another reason it landed on our list. During the Night Market, you’ll be able to ride the submarine to go catch some underwater fish – and those three days are your only shot at catching a Spook Fish in Stardew Valley.

Though, if you’ve got some Magic Bait, you can cast your line out to where the submarine usually sits during the Night Market, and you may find the odd Night Market fish waiting for you there off-season.

While regular Sea Cucumbers do fetch a decent price in Stardew Valley, it’s the Super Cucumber you’re after if you’re trying to reel in the big bucks. This rarer variety of the Sea Cucumber can be caught between 6PM and 2AM in the Ocean in either summer or fall.

They’re another option on your Night Market submarine ride, too, and they can also occasionally be found in the Pirate Cove over on Ginger Island.

Mining is always hard work, so feel free to take a load off from rock-breaking and monster-fishing to go fishing in the Mines. If you cast away in the pond on the 20th floor of the Stardew Valley Mine, you’re quite likely to find some Stonefish.

One of the perks of the Stonefish is that you can catch it during any season, at any time of day, in any weather condition, making it a reliable source of cash as you root around for gems and stones nearby.

If you head further down into the Stardew Valley Mine, you’ll hit the icy levels before too long, and in the pond on the 60th floor amid those frozen floors is a pond containing the Ice Pip. Like the Stonefish, it can be caught at any time of day, in any season.

However, tied with the Ice Pip is another limited-run fish, the Blobfish, which is also normally available only during the Night Market submarine ride. Like the Super Cucumber, careful Magic Bait placement can find this fish off-season.

Even further down in the Stardew Valley Mines, things heat up as you approach the lava levels. On floor 100, you’ll find a large pool of lava that (somehow) doesn’t burn up your fishing line if you cast away into it.

And while you’ll most often find trash, you’ll occasionally net yourself a Lava Eel. The same can be said for the Volcano Caldera on Ginger Island, but be warned – outside the Legendary Fish, the Lava Eel is the trickiest Stardew Valley fish to reel in.

The first of our big-league Legendary Fish, you’ll want to think before opting to sell your Angler – the fall Legendary Fish that spawns off the wood bridge behind JojaMart in the fall – because you only get one of each Legendary Fish.

That said, Stardew Valley knows the decision to part with your rare catch is a tough one, so they pay pretty handsomely for all the Legendary Fish. As long as you’ve reached level three Fishing, Angler can be yours – to keep or to sell.

Another tie happens between two of the five Legendary Fish in Stardew Valley – the Glacierfish and the Mutant Carp, which both sell for the exact same price. The Mutant Carp can be found in the Sewers at any time of day, in any season, but the Glacierfish is far more specific.

To catch a Glacierfish, you’ll need to stand on the Southernmost part of the arrowhead-shaped island in Cindersap Forest during the winter, and so long as you’ve got at least level six Fishing, you stand a chance to snag the seasonal Glacierfish.

Another of our seasonal super-fish, the Crimsonfish is your summer Legendary Fish in Stardew Valley. In order to get it, though, you must first repair the broken wood bridge next to Elliott’s house on the Beach, which you’ll likely have done by the summer when the Crimsonfish finally spawns.

But a trickier prerequisite is reaching level five Fishing before the summer. Stand on the Southernmost pier in the area unlocked when you fixed the bridge and cast your line as far out as possible for a chance to snag the Crimsonfish.

The most expensive fish in Stardew Valley is, without question, the Legend. We’ve spoken highly of the Legendary fish already, and the Legend itself is not only the most expensive fish in Stardew Valley, but it’s also the most difficult fish to catch.

You need to have reached a max of level ten Fishing before heading over to the Mountain Lake on a rainy day in the springtime. Once you’re there, cast your line as far toward the submerged log as you possibly can. Even if you get the most basic quality of the Legend fish and haven’t picked up either perk, it’s still the most expensive fish in Stardew Valley!

Qi’s Extended Family is a quest that you can take on Ginger Island. There are five fish that you can find: Son of Crimsonfish, Ms. Angler, Legend II, Glacierfish Jr. and Radioactive Carp. You can only unlock these fish during the quest, and they’re available during any season.

These fish vary in price, but they are all worth a large amount of money. The least amount is 900g for Ms. Angler, and the most is 15,000g for an Iridium Legend II (if you have Angler Perk). If you smoke it, you’ll get 30,000g, which is the most you can get from a fish in the game.
