Oblivion Remastered: Complete Dark Brotherhood Walkthrough
The Oblivion Remastered Dark Brotherhood quests are some of the darkest – and most rewarding – quests in The Elder Scrolls, let alone just Oblivion.
This handy walkthrough will show players every step they need to know to complete all Thieves Guild quests and earn the rewards and riches that are associated with a master thief, so take to below to find the complete guide on the Thieves Guild for Oblivion Remastered.
How to Join the Thieves Guild
In order to join the Thieves Guild, players must acquire the Finding the Thieves Guild quest, which will become active once players inspect the bounty poster of the Gray Fox that can be found in the Imperial City’s Waterfront district. Once that’s achieved, ask about the Gray Fox to any Imperial City Guard, and then ask a Beggar after persuading them with the Disposition wheel and some coin. This will lead players to the Waterfront District’s slums area, where at midnight, Armand Christophe can be found in the Garden of Dareloth.
Speaking with Armand Christophe will see players tasked with their initiation job to join the Thieves Guild: May the Best Thief Win. To join the Thieves Guild, players will need to run to Amantius Allectus’ House (found near the Arboretum entrance in the Temple District) and steal his diary from the desk on the ground floor, and return it to Armand Christophe before the other two thieves. Doing so will see players brought into the Thieves Guild.
Part One: Armand Christophe’s Special Jobs
The first set of Thieves Guild quests will be available from Armand Christpohe, the first Doyen that players will make contact with. Armand Christophe can be found in the Waterfront district of the Imperial City and will arrive in the slum’s garden area around midnight each day. To accept his missions, players must have sold enough stolen goods at Ongar the World-Weary, which is easily achieved simply by robbing the Red Diamond Jewelry of all its valuables. Here’s how much gold must be fenced in total to progress each of Armand Christophe’s quests:
Quest |
Gold Fenced |
---|---|
Untaxing the Poor |
50 Gold |
The Elven Maiden |
100 Gold |
Untaxing the Poor
Armand Christophe’s first special job for the player in the Thieves Guild involves sneaking into the South Watchtower in the Imperial City and entering the upper floors to steal the tax records found in Hieronymus Lex’s private quarters. This won’t be too hard, as all players need to do is head into the South Watchtower either between 9 AM and 11 AM or 9 PM and 11 PM, where the guards will not be present on the ground floor, nor will they be awake on the upper floors. Upon receiving the tax records, hand them over to Armand Christoph.

Armand Christoph’s final quest involves heading to the Chapel of Cheydinhal to enter the forbidden parts of the Undercroft, where players must steal Llathasa’s Bust. This can be a hard mission to sneak through, as there are two guards who patrol down in the Undercroft. Players must enter the first room on the left to steal Llathasa’s Bust, but be sure not to loot the coffin, as it will awaken a ghost-type enemy that alerts the guards. Instead, players should focus on getting the statue and then leaving.
Once players return to the Waterfront District, it will be swarming with guards, and Armand Christophe is missing. To make Armand Christophe reappear, sneak into Myvryna Arano’s house and place Llathasa’s Bust in the cupboard to the right of her bed, and then tell Hieronymus Lex (found near Myvryna’s house in the Waterfront), who will need to be convinced with a Disposition of 70+. Once Hieronymus Lex has arrested Myvryna, head back to Christoph’s usual spot around midnight to complete the quest.
Part Two: S’Krivva’s Special Jobs
S’Krivva will become the second Doyen that players will work for once they have completed all of Armand Christoph’s special jobs. S’Krivva can be found inside S’Krivva’s House in Bravil, and she will provide players with quests throughout the day so long as they have sold the desired amount of gold listed below:

Ahdarji’s Heirloom
Ahdarji’s Heirloom involves the player heading to Leyawiin and speaking with Ahdarji at the Three Sisters’ Inn during the evening, where the player is tasked with stealing a stolen ring. The quest kicks into gear once players visit Amusei in the Leyawiin Castle’s prison, where he can be bribed with a Lockpick to reveal more information. In order to actually steal the ring, players will need to wait until the Countess is asleep (around 1 AM, and not on the 15th, 16th, and 17th of any month) and then traverse through secret hallways in Castle Leyawiin Basement by activating a secret lever found in a barrel at the south wall.
Travel through these secret walls to reach the private chambers of Castle Leaywiin, where they must sneak past a guard and head into the first room on their left to the Countess’ room, where, in a lockbox by the bed, they will find Ahdarji’s Ring. Simply exit the way you came, give Ahdarji back her ring, and speak with S’Krivva to conclude the quest.
Ahdarji’s Heirloom has an infamous glitch where the ring will not spawn. In those instances, restart the quest and be sure to speak with Ahdarji after speaking to Amusei.

For this quest, players will need to find Methredhel. Luckily, she can be located within Dynari Amnis’ House in the Talos Plaza District of the Imperial City. Once found, she provides players with a quest to steal Hromir’s Icestaff, located in the Arch-Mage’s private quarters found in the Arcane University. To safely steal this item, venture to the Arcane University from 1 AM to 7 AM, as there are no guards to stop players from entering the private quarters. After taking Hromir’s Icestaff, interact with the bedside table to place a note from the Gray Fox.
The final step of this quest involves heading to the Waterfront district to spy on Hieronymus Lex from the rooftops of the slums, where a small cutscene will play. After which, return to Methredel and then return Hromir’s Icestaff by placing it in Ontus Vanin’s chest within his house.
Lost Histories
After starting Lost Histories from S’Krivva, the player must head to the Skingrad dungeon found in Castle Skingrad to find Theranis, a thief who was tasked with stealing the Lost Histories of Tamriel. In order to actually enter the jails, players must sneak past the guard, and upon doing so, they will find Larthjar the Laggard. Upon speaking to Larthjar, players will discover that Theranis was taken by the Pale Lady. This begins a blood trail that can be found between the two jail cells, where the sconce on the right can be interacted with to reveal a secret entrance.
Upon entering the secret entrance, head right into the wine cellar where yet another secret lever is found close to the far right barrel. Interacting with this lever opens the middle barrel, where players must fight the Pale Lady and free Amusei. However, in order to actually get the Lost Histories of Tamriel book, players must escape with Amusei, but remember he is a wanted prisoner, so this must be done through stealth.
Amusei is easy to sneak out of the castle by waiting until 2 AM while most of the guards are asleep, and then head through the dining hall and into the county hall, where once players reach the west wing of the castle, Amusei is free. From here, grab the Lost Histories of Tamriel book within a bush found near a well behind Nerastarel’s House, and return to S’Kivva for this quest to conclude.

The final part of S’Kivva’s quest involves getting Hieronymus Lex reassigned out of the Imperial City. To start, players will need to steal a recommendation letter from Dairhill’s desk in Castle Bravil, but to do that, players will need to speak with Orrin, who can be found in the Smithy area of the castle, who leads players to a secret passageway. It’s best to access this passageway at around 1 AM, as there’s only one guard to watch through the patrol as players head to Dairhill’s desk and steal the recommendation letter found in a locked room to the left.
With the recommendation letter, enter the Abandoned House by the Anvil Mages Guild building and speak with the Stranger, who can forge the letter players want, as long as they provide 500 gold. After waiting 24 hours and obtaining the forged letter, it’s time to get the Imperial Seal. Players can collect this seal at the Imperial Legion Offices in the Prison District of the Imperial City.
To deliver the letter, speak with Countess Millona Umbranox in Anvil, and then return to the Waterfront District of the Imperial City to speak with Hieronymus Lex to reassign him. Now, speak with S’Krivva to conclude her quest chain.
Part Three: The Gray Fox’s Special Jobs
The final set of quests for the Thieves Guild involves special jobs for the Gray Fox, and each of these missions can be obtained by the usual way of fencing gold, but also through waiting around. Once players have fenced enough gold, they will need to wait around the Imperial City for a member of the Thieves Guild to reach them, so just wait 24 in-game hours to speak with them and then venture to the location of the Gray Fox:

Turning a Blind Eye
After visiting the Gray Fox in Helvius Cecia’s House in Bruma, players will need to travel north of Cheydinhal to steal a relic from the Moth Priests. This is easily done by raising Brother Holger’s Disposition to 80, where he will lead players inside. The Moth Priests are blind, but will attack visitors, so stay in stealth if you wish to avoid bloodied hands. However, there is no Blood Price in this mission, so killing the Moth Priests has no negative consequences. Simply follow through the Temple of the Ancestor Moths to reach the final room containing a Welkynd Stone and Sivilla’s Stone. Once players pick up Sivilla’s Stone, head through the cave on the right to access a ladder that takes players outside, allowing them to fast travel back to the Gray Fox.

Upon receiving word from Amusei, venture to Malintus Anerus’ House in Chorrol to speak to the Gray Fox. The objective of this quest involves stealing the Arrow of Extrication, which can be achieved by venturing into Fathis Aren’s quarters within Castle Bravil’s North Wing, at around 7:30 AM to avoid the guards. Once inside his room, opening the chests will reveal nothing, so players must interact with a central pillar on the right to access a secret room to Bravil Wizard’s Grotto.
Players will need to navigate through this dungeon, and upon finding a door that needs a key, players will head further into the rooms until they are in a waterlogged cave. In this cave, swim down and north to find a way around, where players are now in Fathis Aren’s Tower. Fathis Aren himself is hostile, so to avoid expulsion from the Mages Guild, don’t kill him. Instead, run up to the top of the tower to loot the Arrow of Extrication from his chest and his key to escape the castle, and then fast travel back to Malintus Anerus’ House.
Boots of Springheel Jak
The penultimate Thieves Guild quest involves meeting the Gray Fox in Gandrehel’s House in Cheydinhal, and then investigating a vampire in the Imperial City. Players will need to head to Jakben’s house in the Talos Plaza District, where upstairs in the dining area is a locked hatch on the ceiling that can be looted for the Imbel Genealogy book. Once obtained, wait outside of Jakben’s house until 10 PM to question him, where he will give players a key to access the catacombs in his house’s basement.
Within the basement’s catacombs, players will fight vampires and loot Springheel Jak’s coffin, only to discover a diary that reveals that Springheel Jak is actually Jakben, a vampire. Jakben will then enter the room, and upon killing him, players can loot him for the Boots of Springheel Jak, and returning them to the Gray Fox in Gandrehel’s House will conclude the quest.

The final Thieves Guild quest will take players to Othrelos’ House in the Imperial City’s Elven Gardens District, where they will have a final meeting with Gray Fox. The quest itself involves breaking into the Imperial Palace’s Basement to activate the Glass of Time, and then heading through the City’s Sewers to reach the Old Way. Navigating the City’s Sewers is straightforward enough, as players must follow the markers and activate the turn wheels in each room to progress through the next door. Upon reaching the Old Way, players will then need to equip the Boots of Springheel Jak to jump up a stone pillar and interact with two Push Walls, where they can then access the Hall of Epochs.
Within the Hall of Epochs, players are faced with a puzzle before they can proceed. To solve the puzzle, simply venture up the stairs and hug the walls to the right to find a door that can be accessed. Within this room, head right to activate a Push Wall, then continue through this room to enter another section of the Hall of Epochs, where, through open walls, players can activate another Push Wall and head back to the main room. Inside the main room, stand on teh pressure plate and equip a Bow and the Arrow of Extrication, and fire it at the statue’s head so that the arrow hits the statue’s open stomach, thus opening a secret passage forward.
Now players are inside, it’s time to sneak through the Imperial Guard Quarters, heading upstairs to the Elder Scrolls Library. Players will need to activate the lever behind the blind Moth Priest, and then sit in the Reading Chair to steal the Elder Scroll, and escape through the Imperial Palace by heading further up. Once players have escaped, give the scroll to the Gray Fox in Othrelos’ House, and then proceed to speak with the Countess of Anvil in Anvil’s Castle to receive a cutscene and the final rewards for the Thieves Guild quest.
