Why is Usopp's lie important?
Almost all of Usopp's lies can be considered predictions of the future. By now, many lies have become reality and, as a result, have been disqualified from being false. A lie does not become the truth immediately, but it takes time.
Every time Usopp tells a lie, fans can expect it to become reality in the future. Therefore, it is very important to remember all the lies that the Straw Hat Sniper tells. Fans have already seen many of these lies become truth, and with the story of the Final Saga, it's likely that the rest will become reality as well.
Usopp's lie became reality
The first lie Usopp told was that pirates were coming to Syrup Village. Usopp shouted and screamed several times that the village was under attack by pirates. At first the villagers believed him, but one day they realized he was just a liar.
This lie became truth in stories such as when the Black Cat Pirates attacked Syrup Village. The pirates led by Captain Kuro would certainly have destroyed the peaceful village. Fortunately, Usopp's new allies defeat them and save the village.
The second lie that became true was about a fish whose poop was so big it could dock a store. Usopp told this story to Kaya to cheer her up as she continued to be sick. This lie became true in the Little Garden arc, where the Straw Hat Pirates encountered a giant goldfish. The fish poop was so large that it was called Nanimonai Island.
Of course, it was fake! I can't even lift 5 tons! “I stopped after just 5 pounds!” —Usopp
Usopp's lie about the goldfish also mentions a country of small people who eat giant fish. While the goldfish part was realized in Little Garden, the other half of the lie only became reality in the Dressrosa arc. The Tontata tribe debuted in the Dressrosa arc. They were fierce warriors who caught and ate the fighting fish that lived in the waters around the island. The Tontata tribe members loved Usopp and considered him untouchable.
Mole, Dragon, Cerberus
Another one of Usopp's lies was about a giant mole inside the mansion. This lie was about Miss Merry Christmas, who possessed the Mogumogunomi, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allowed her to transform into a mole.
Usopp also lied about catching a dragon and chasing Cerberus. The latter occurred during the Thriller Bark arc, where the Straw Hats met Moria and one of Hogback's creations. The beast seemed fierce at first, but Luffy and his friends quickly tamed it. The crew met the dragon in Punk Hazard. It was quite massive and could easily wipe out an entire village. Roronoa Zoro took on the responsibility of eliminating it, and he did so bravely.
First bounty as Sogeking
When Luffy received the 30 million bounty, Usopp claimed it as his, which was an obvious lie. But this lie also became reality. Usopp did not want to confront Luffy and the rest of the crew, so he impersonated Sogeking during the Enies Lobby arc. After the Straw Hats successfully rescued Robin and defeated CP9, the crew received a new bounty. As Sogeking, Usopp's new bounty was 30 million.
What other lies have not yet become true?
Usopp spewed out six lies that were not yet true. These include:
- Claims to be a brave sea warrior
- alien store owner
- A medicine that can cure everything
- Has 8,000 followers
- Fight the Sea King in the Calm Belt
Throughout One Piece's Final Saga, Usopp doesn't have too much time to turn these lies into truth. The medicine that can cure everything will probably be discovered by Chopper, who wants to become the world's best doctor.
The lie about fighting the Sea Kings ties into the final battle with Imu. It is said that water levels will rise again, causing changes to the landscape around the world. Creatures living in the sea will definitely be affected and may become more aggressive. Usopp's lie/dream of becoming a brave sea warrior will probably become a reality once he fights the Blackbeard Pirates and defeats Van Augur.
