But that is just overly optimistic. Drednaw has not found a place in the current metagame for a variety of reasons. They are all listed below.

  1. Drednaw is a Tier 1 Pokémon.. Players have to spend time and effort to evolve it, which isn't worth it in most META Water-Type decks.
  2. Drednaw requires three Water Energy.. In return, it only deals 70 damage and has a “chance” to discard one energy from your opponent's active Pokémon. That's not a tempting compromise.
  3. Drednaw is not retreat friendly.. Even if the player uses Leaf on Drednaw, it will still cost 1 extra energy to retreat due to the massive 3-energy retreat cost.

Galvantula is facing an existential crisis. pokemon pocketCurrent META. Since there is no room for this Pokémon in the Lightning archetype, you might wonder why it was created in the first place. That said, fans have had success using Galvantula to build clever decks that can frustrate their opponents and force them to concede early. But is that enough to save Galvantula's position? no way.

The problem is that Galvantula is either a game-changing play or an annoying card that hinders your opponent. There is no real middle ground, which is disappointing. Pokémon are included in this list because while they provide consistent damage and effects, they aren't always the best choice in Lightning-type decks.

Prime Ape

The new Primeape is one of the strangest cards in the Mythical Island expansion. It's a debuff variant that begs the question: Why do players choose this version over the Genetic Apex version? This new variant offers a solid 50 damage for both Fighting type energies, providing more consistency. But the problem is that Genetic Apex Primeape deals a net 40 damage at the same energy cost, has 10 more HP, and more importantly, can boost its attacks by 60 (dealing 100 total damage).

What makes things even worse for the new Primeape is that the older variant is currently highly popular in META as a reliable counter to Druddigon. And with Druddigon's growing popularity, there's little reason for players to choose Mythical Island Primeape over Genetic Apex.

On the surface, Mythical Island's ponyta appears to have been improved or buffed. However, the real downside to this variant of play is revealed when players do the math. If an attack deals 40 damage but has a 50% chance of occurring, the average damage output is the same as a guaranteed 20 damage attack. This is because the expected damage is calculated as 40×0.5=20.

Some might argue that Ponyta from Mythical Island has synergy with the new Rapidash. This is because both introduce RNG risk against potential reward. But what is clear is pokemon pocket's META is that decks that have historically been centered around coin flips often have a hard time performing well at high levels of competitive play, where consistency is key. So even though there are synergies between the two new cards, they are ultimately redundant.

Florhes

Cons: Awkward synergies

Florges is an interesting case. On paper, the premise looks promising. A Pokémon that can occupy an active spot for a while and heal its teammates on the bench. With Florges being a Psychic type and the recent addition of Mew ex and Budding Expeditioner, it looks like it will be successful. In theory, Florges can heal Retreat Pokemon and Mew ex can heal themselves using Budding Expeditioner. This is a win-win situation. But that's not what usually happens.

The biggest problem is that Florges is a Tier 2 Pokémon, which greatly reduces its effectiveness. Mewtwo ex decks are already slow due to Gardevoir's Evolution line. Adding Florges to an already crowded lineup makes things even worse. By the time Florges is ready, your opponent will likely have a basic DPS placed on the Active Spot, and that Pokemon will likely one-shot Florges after the round.

Slurpuff is the worst card in the Mythical Island expansion. It's nearly impossible to find or build a META-friendly deck that can take advantage of this Pokémon. Slurpuff is a level 1 Psychic type that deals 60 damage with 1 Psychic and 1 colorless energy. And that's it.

Slurpuff's only advantage is its weakness to Steel. There are very few strong Steel-Type lineups in the current metagame that can take advantage of this. But that alone is not enough to raise its status. It's hard to imagine a future where Slurpuff will play a major role in META. But only time will tell.
