Concerns that Xbox stock would be removed from more major retailers swirled over the weekend when reports began surfacing that Target and Walmart could be abandoning the console and games. Xbox has now allayed those concerns somewhat, releasing a statement claiming that this isn't true.
Xbox reached out to Windows Central, with people sharing images and anecdotes from Walmart and Target locations across the U.S., where most Xbox sections looked rather deserted. Nonetheless, the Xbox statement reads, “Target and Walmart, among other retailers, remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories and games.”
There are reportedly no official plans to recall Xbox stock from Walmart and Target.
This seems to mean that Xbox stock won't disappear from Walmart and Target shelves forever, at least for now. If so, this wouldn't be the first time Xbox has convinced customers that the exact opposite will happen. But for now, if you want to buy an Xbox Series
Xbox products may not immediately disappear from certain store shelves, but there's more evidence that Xbox products are becoming harder to find at Walmart and Target than people who claim to work there are reporting that they're running out of stock. Amid reports that more retailers are abandoning the brand, we've confirmed stock of Xbox products, and in some regions, only one Series S may be available.
Walmart and Target's fears come as Costco and Sam's Club pull Xbox inventory from their shelves. Costco was the first company to quickly confirm that it was a “business decision” to stop selling Xbox hardware in its stores. If the same fate befalls Xbox products from Walmart and Target, we may have to wait for similar, official statements from the retailers themselves.
Whether or not you'll be able to buy games to use with your Xbox at Walmart and Target in the near future, these are tumultuous times for Xbox. The decision to raise the price of Xbox Game Pass to $29.99 per month resulted in so many subscribers dropping out of the service that the cancellation page crashed. There were also rumors that Series X|S would be Xbox's final console, but Xbox denied these claims as well.
