Over the past few months, Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios hasn't done a great job of keeping fans happy and excited about their upcoming projects. has ignored the almost constant onslaught of criticism over its refusal to remove controversial Japanese actor Teruyuki Kagawa from Kiwami 3. Kiwami 3 admitted to forcibly groping the woman in 2019. Because of this, many previously loyal fans of the developer slowly turned against them.

You'd think Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios would do their best to not fan the flames of hatred any further. However, the recent decision to remove Yakuza 0 from almost all stores and replace it with the more expensive Director's Cut has fans even more excited. Yes. You have until December 8th to purchase the original version of Yakuza 0 before it disappears into the void and is no longer available for purchase on Steam, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4.

Yakuza 0 is delisted and replaced with Director's Cut

Even ignoring the understandable concerns surrounding video game preservation, many fans are annoyed that the cheaper version of Yakuza 0 is being removed from stores instead of the more expensive Director's Cut. While you can buy the original Yakuza 0 for around $20, the Director's Cut will set you back $50, and not many fans think the Director's Cut's extra content is worth the price increase.

I'm scared to go in like a dragon, so I keep playing Yakuza spin-off games instead.

There are so many mainstream Yakuza games out there, why not start with a spinoff instead?

Additionally, the Director's Cut only applies to PS5 and Xbox Series X systems. This means that once the listing is removed, you won't be able to purchase any version of Yakuza 0 on PS4 and Xbox One. To say it was an unpopular decision would be an understatement, and now it has a loyal following of fans who claim it has destroyed the goodwill that Ryugagotoku Studio has built up over the years, to the point where people say they “now despise this company.”

If you're looking to pick up Yakuza 0: Director's Cut on the cheap, Sega is offering an upgrade path for $15 for digital owners of the original Yakuza 0. That means you can buy the original version for $20 and then upgrade immediately so you don't have to spend the full $50 on the Director's Cut after December 8th. But judging by the reaction, it seems like many fans won't care for now.
