In a video uploaded from inside SEN’s commentary box, Gerard Whateley is seen calling the magical moment Pies debutant Lachie Sullivan kicks his first AFL goal.

Sullivan joined the club of players to nail a goal with their first AFL kick as he calmly snapped for home in the second quarter.

But it wasn’t Whateley’s commentary that caused the upload to go viral, instead it was Russell who had a two litre bottle of milk on the desk in front of him.

As the moment played out and those around him in the commentary box revelled in it, the veteran called was transfixed on pouring himself a fresh drink.

While Whateley, Dermott Brereton and Gerard Healy discussed Sullivan’s first AFL goal, Russell sat quietly in the front row of the commentary box sipping away at his drink.

The moment quickly whipped around social media with footy fans absolutely loving the moment from the veteran caller that stole the show.

Former AFL ruckman Jeff White wrote: “Dwayne with a tub of milk haha outstanding.”

SEN producer John Donohoe wrote: “I have never seen anything like it. You’re a bloody gem Dwayne Russell.”

Damien Ractliffe wrote: “Dwayne’s got a great opportunity here for a new sponsor.”

One user wrote: “Casually treating himself to a 2 litre milk while commentating the biggest rivalry in AFL.”

A second added: “Great call but watching Dwayne just pour himself a glass of milk was unexpected.”

A third wrote: “I was fully expecting Dwayne to swig straight from the carton.”

While Russell may have stolen the show inside the commentary box, it was Nick Daicos stealing the show on the MCG turf.

The Collingwood superstar proved the difference as he slotted the matchwinning goal with 63 seconds left to play to secure the 12.13 (85) to 12.7 (79) win.

“It was a good feeling,” Daicos said post-match.

“We missed a couple before it and you start to get a little bit nervous.

“Just lucky it went through.”
